Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for applying behavioral-based parental controls for media assets. The disclosed techniques herein discuss determining a media asset viewed by a user and character actions of a character within the media asset. Behavioral user data is received which includes a user action. A determination is made whether the user action matches one of the character actions. If a match is found, a parental control restriction setting for the media asset is applied and this parental control restriction is stored in memory.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for providing streaming video from mobile computing nodes. A request for streaming video captured by a mobile computing node can be received at a computer including a processor that executes a controller. The request can include a parameter associated with the streaming video. The computer can initiate transmission of an inquiry message to two or more mobile computing nodes and receive inquiry message responses from the mobile computing nodes that include the mobile computing node. The inquiry message responses can indicate that the mobile computing nodes can satisfy the parameter. The computer can create a list of the mobile computing nodes that can satisfy the parameter and provide the list to the requestor. The computer can receive a selection of the mobile computing node, and initiate delivery of a video stream to the requestor.

Abstract: A virtual communication bus for sharing information between applications is provided. When a user accesses media content on a television or content via an application on a virtual communication bus, data associated with the media content or the application content may be stored in a communal memory in a standard format, and may be accessed by one or more other applications on the virtual communication bus. The data may include data associated with interactions between the user and an application and interaction between applications. The data may be utilized to determine relevant information to provide the user. When a user accesses another application (on a same or another device), information determined to be relevant to the user may be provided. Data may be stored and shared between applications on the virtual communication bus.

Abstract: Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. A USB driver communicates I2C through a JAVA® application with a USB dongle implementing for example an ATSC 3.0 tuner, with the JAVA application simply passing I2C communication between the dongle and driver such that the driver is platform independent.

Abstract: A multi-media presentation system includes an input subsystem operable to collect data including an unassisted data input of a viewer from within a natural, unaided sensing range of the viewer; a storage subsystem with a multiple of storage subsystems operable to store the data including the unassisted data input in a storage subsystem in a manner associated with a preference; and a server subsystem operable to selectively display a multi-media presentation in accordance with the preference.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes identifying an upcoming content modification opportunity on a channel. The method also includes responsive to identifying the upcoming content modification opportunity on the channel, identifying a group of multiple content-presentation devices tuned to the channel. The method also includes for each content-presentation device in the identified group, determining a respective probability of that content-presentation device successfully performing a respective content-modification operation in connection with the identified upcoming content modification opportunity on the channel. The method also includes using at least the determined probabilities as a basis to select, from among the content-presentation devices in the identified group, a subgroup of content-presentation devices.

Abstract: It may be determined when at least one boost achievement condition is satisfied for temporarily boosting visibility of a video streaming channel within one or more interfaces of a video streaming service. The boosting of the visibility of the video streaming channel may be initiated based on satisfaction of the at least one boost achievement condition. It may be determined when at least one boost reward condition is satisfied. The boosting of the visibility of the video streaming channel may be terminated based on satisfaction of the at least one boost reward condition. The at least one boost achievement condition and the at least one boost reward condition may differ for different video streaming channels and may be determined based at least in part on viewership of the different video streaming channels.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes identifying a group of multiple content-presentation devices that are tuned to the same channel and that are each scheduled to perform, at a modification start-time, a respective content-modification operation that comprises modifying a modifiable content-segment in connection with an upcoming content-modification opportunity on the channel. The method also includes determining that, after the modification start-time, at least a subgroup of the group of content-presentation devices have detected a mismatch between reference fingerprint data representing the modifiable content-segment and query fingerprint data representing content received by at least the subgroup of content-presentation devices.

Abstract: Generally, according to aspects of the present invention, a media content item may be casted by a user equipment (UE) to another UE over a local area network (LAN). The UE (cast device) may cast a local media content item stored on the cast device to said another UE (media playback device) by streaming the local media content item to the media playback device over the LAN, so that the media playback device may play back the local media content item. The cast device may cast an online media content item stored on a remote server to the media playback device by causing the server to stream the online media content item to the media playback device over the Internet, so that the media playback device may play back the online media content item. Various embodiments of the present invention provide great efficiency and flexibility in such cast of a media content item from a UE to another UE.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to calibrate media ratings based on return path data are disclosed. An apparatus includes a processor and memory including instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to: determine an initial rating for the media provided in a first geographic area based on return path data (RPD) tuning information obtained from RPD devices in subscriber households in the first geographic area; determine a first panelist rating for the media provided in a second geographic area based on first panel tuning information obtained from first metering devices in a first subset of panelist households in the second geographic area; determine a nonsubscriber calibration factor based on the first panelist rating; and determine a final rating for the media in the first geographic area by modifying the initial rating based on the nonsubscriber calibration factor.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to selectively provide a buffer time prior to deletion of a media content item. In particular, techniques are presented for transmitting a proposal to delay deletion of a media content item, in response to determining that a number of identified users likely to view the media content item exceeds a predetermined number. Systems and methods are also described to identify a user who is likely to view the media content item, and present to the identified user an offer to extend availability of a media content item. Deletion of the media content item may be delayed by a predetermined time period.

Abstract: Methods and systems may provide media content via retail display devices and/or portable electronic devices to assist consumers in retail environments. Potentially relevant media content may be intelligently obtained, stored, and/or distributed based on a number of considerations to ensure that relevant content will be available for a variety of consumers having a variety of retail needs. Through specific techniques described herein, the methods and systems herein may overcome technological and logistical challenges associated with distributing content among computing devices that are often limited in computing capabilities. Furthermore, the methods and system herein may provide media content in a manner that promotes authors who create and share media content via social media services.
