  • Patent number: 5417251
Abstract: A jet loom with a weft yarn insertion brake contains a braking element that is movable from a position of rest, on one side of the weft yarn, across the path of the weft yarn to a braking position. An electric motor, which drives the braking element, can be actuated during each insertion process of the loom. The electric motor preferably constitutes a fast response step or d.c. motor, whose direction of displacement can be switched and whose stroke can be individually adjusted for each set position of the braking element during the insertion process. Operation of the electric motor is controlled by an electronic control device. Programming within the control device can be modified between varying insertion processes so as to adapt the timing, stroke and driving direction of the electric motor. The driving force of the electric motor is transferred to the braking element by a constrained, inelastic link connecting the two.

  • Patent number: 5415205
Abstract: A reed (28) for a loom includes a frame with upper and lower baulk mechanisms (D, E) that carry a front row (B) of dents (30) on the beat-up side of the frame and a back row (C) of dents (34) staggered in alignment with dents (30). Lower baulk mechanism (E) includes a stepped clamping portion which is reduced in depth compared to the depth of the upper portion of the lower baulk mechanism (E) such that dents (34) are shorter in height in the lower baulk mechanism (E) than dents (30). This renders one of the rows (C) of dents (34) able to be disposed farther from the other row (B) of dents (30) than if they were to extend into the clamping portion of the lower baulk mechanism (E) the same amount as dents (30).

  • Patent number: 5415207
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the drive of an off loom take-up which winds cloth upon a cloth roll is disclosed. The off loom take up comprises a pair of spaced, driven take-up rollers upon which the cloth roll is supported and rotated. As cloth coming from the loom is directed to the cloth roll being wound, it passes underneath a pivotal directional roll which is supported on spaced pivotal arms. A motor controller controls an electric motor which drives the driven take-up rollers at a preset speed which allows the cloth to travel at the directional roll at a slightly slower speed than the speed at which the cloth travels leaving the take-off rolls of the loom. This establishes a predetermined downward "creep" in the movement of the pivotal directional roll. The downward movement of the directional roll is sensed by a detector.
