Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for characterizing links to resources that are not activated are disclosed. According to one aspect, a page is presented via a user interface of a client device, the page including a link to a resource accessible via a network through activation of the link. The client device determines whether the link on the page is not activated. The link is characterized based on at least one of information associated with the link, the resource, and the page responsive to determining that the link is not activated.

Abstract: Described is a technology by which an application program such as a gadget may communicate with a sidebar program to output content for consumption by an auxiliary display device. The gadget may communicate with the sidebar program via sidebar APIs, and in turn the sidebar program communicates with an auxiliary display device platform via auxiliary display device APIs. Among its capabilities, the sidebar program may install gadgets on a host computer system, and upon detecting that the host computer system is configured to operate with an auxiliary display device, may install the gadget such that the gadget is configured to work with an auxiliary display device. The installation may be accomplished by having the sidebar program write information to a system registry.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided to control a plurality of applications on a computer having a graphical user interface using a control application installed in addition to an operating system of the computer. An object, representing the control application and having a first sensitive area, is displayed within the graphical user interface. A first user input is received at the first sensitive area on the object. A window slides from the object and includes a plurality of icons corresponding to the plurality of applications while the first sensitive area continues to be displayed. A second user input is received in the window corresponding to at least one of the plurality of icons. At least one of the applications is then controlled based on the second user input.

Abstract: Implementations are described and claimed herein to enable a user to quickly and efficiently locate preferred web pages or resources based on previous navigation. Implementations may utilize an “intelligent forward” resource navigation scheme which analyzes a user's navigation to determine web pages or resources that the user is likely to target. Shortcuts to the “forward target resources” may be presented in a manner that allows the user to readily and directly access a desired web page or resource without having to navigate among a series of intervening web pages or resources. In addition, the forward target resources may be ranked (e.g., based on frequency of access) and shortcuts may be presented to the user based on rank.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a system for controlling display content for multiple electronic displays includes software operable to generate a graphical user interface (GUI) and control instructions. The GUI includes a plurality of virtual display unit icons and a plurality of display content icons, each of the display content icons corresponding with a display content file and each of the display content icons being operable to be selected and positioned within the GUI. Particular virtual display unit icons may be associated with particular display content icons according to the position of the particular display content icons within the GUI. The control instructions are adapted to define display content for a display group comprising a plurality of electronic display units, such that the display content for a particular display unit corresponds with the display content associated with a virtual display unit icon for the particular display unit.

Abstract: A dynamic link control object (DLCO) is positioned on a page of a web site. The web site is hosted by a content management server (CMS) that stores the page with the DLCO therein and serves same to a requestor thereof. The page as served to the requestor has a context associated therewith. The DLCO on the page as viewed by the requester displays navigation links associated with the page, where the displayed navigation links dynamically vary according to the context of the page. Thus, the DLCO on a first page with a first context may display different links as compared to the DLCO on a second page with a second context. A designer designing a page creates particular types of links on such page by placing the DLCO on the page without specifically defining each link.

Abstract: Identity plates are described, including importing identity data into an application, the identity data being used to configure one or more identity elements, configuring an identity plate using the one or more identity elements, and presenting the identity plate within an interface associated with the application, the identity plate being configured to display the one or more identity elements in one or more associated positions configured to receive the one or more identity elements.

Abstract: Described is a system and method for directly accessing functionality provided by an application, such as via the Web or an operating system Shell. The functionality of an application is separated into unique tasks. Each task has an associated entry point into the application. The associated entry point allows a computer user to invoke the specified task directly rather than to invoke the application and then navigate within the application to locate the specified task. Each task may be exposed to an operating system, such as by having an icon associated with the task appear in an activity center on the desktop. The present invention may operate within a desktop environment, a web-based environment, a browser environment, and others.

Abstract: A placeholder control object is positioned on a page of a web site hosted by a content management server (CMS). The CMS stores the page with the placeholder control object therein and serves same to a requestor thereof. In a presentation mode, the page and the placeholder control object therein are served by the CMS to a requesting viewer of the page at a browser thereof. In such presentation mode, the placeholder control object displays associated content to the viewer within the browser thereof. In an authoring mode, the page and the placeholder control object therein are served by the CMS to a requesting designer of the page at a browser thereof. In such authoring mode, the placeholder control object allows editing of the associated content by the designer within the browser thereof and saving the edited content to the CMS.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for navigating between sections in a display space is furnished. The sections in the display space are each assigned to a particular location of the display space, and representatives are provided which are each assigned to a particular section in the display space using an unambiguous relation. The method for navigating includes the following steps: selecting at least one representative that is assigned to a particular section in the display space with the aid of the unambiguous relation; and navigating to the particular section in the display space with the aid of the unambiguous relation with the particular section in the display space.

Abstract: An editing system has a graphical user interface that shows media/metadata and metadata/metadata relationships and allows a user to navigate a graph defined by these relationships. Using this graphical user interface, a user may determine, for example, which masterclips are used in a sequence, or which sequences are using those masterclips. Such information can be useful for many purposes. For example, by identifying all masterclips used in a sequence, the media files associated with these masterclips can be readily recaptured in a different format. The graphical user interface provides simple navigation of such relationships by using two panes. Each pane may receive and display indications of any media data or metadata object type defined in the problem domain. In an editing system, such object types may include objects such as projects, sequences, clips and media files.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method, system, and computer-readable medium for providing a dynamic paging control that selects the type of paging control to be displayed for use with paged content. Paging controls are used to navigate the paged content. Paging parameters describing the number of pages to be represented by the paging control and a description of the paging control's display environment are used to select the paging control type. If the paging parameters specify a type of paging control to use, that paging control type is used. If no paging control type is specified, the dynamic paging control automatically determines a paging control type based on the paging parameters. The page and the paging control type is then presented for display.

Abstract: An information processing device which enables display of guide information made up of characters, images and map data related to destinations and facilities of interest, in association with user information made up of texts and images recorded by the user, is provided. User information in the form of text data as well as guide information is displayed in an explanation display part. A photograph or illustration of facilities is displayed in an image display part. A map showing routes to facilities of interest from principal public facilities is displayed in a map display part. Since the latitude and longitude is recorded in map data irrespective of whether its format is a vector format or image format, the position of the facilities can be displayed from positioning information acquired from other equipments. Moreover, the setting of destinations and navigation including route guide are possible.

Abstract: A method of displaying a user interface, comprising the steps of first obtaining a representation of the user interface. The representation includes conceptual components representing multi-dimensional arrays of elements of the user interface. The conceptual components include a vector parameter related to a multi-dimensional size of the array, and matrices having dimensions related to those of the array. The method proceeds by executing a device-specific rendering algorithm on the representation of the user interface and displaying the user interface on the device.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for enabling users to define one or more areas of a graphical user interface (“GUI”) as being “glue-like”. When the user moves a pointing device (e.g., a mouse, joystick, track ball, etc.) and as a result, the graphical pointer moves into a painted area, the speed at which the graphical pointer will then traverse the GUI is programmatically slowed. Upon exiting the painted area, the graphical pointer speed is preferably restored to its prior setting. In this manner, the user achieves user-specific, application-independent control over the speed at which the graphical pointer moves.

Abstract: A cellular phone and a guidance display program enable an enhancement of operability when operating the cellular phone, corresponding to an event. An occurrence of an event is detected, guidance information corresponding to the event is searched out of a guidance storage unit. A standby-image corresponding to the guidance information is generated and then displayed, and guidance is displayed in the standby-image. When accepting an operation displayed in the guidance, a process corresponding to the event is executed.

Abstract: A method for editing software objects can include identifying at least one user selection of at least a portion of an electronic document displayed within an application and prompting a user for a target destination to which the user selection is to be posted. A user input specifying the target destination to which the user selection is to be posted can be received and the user selection can be duplicated to the target destination.
