  • Patent number: 5577263
Abstract: A method for producing a composite element by causing a stream of gaseous rhenium hexafluoride to flow onto a carbon substrate in a chemical vapor deposition reaction. A flow of hydrogen gas causes a reduction of the rhenium hexafluoride to rhenium metal to thereby deposit a uniform layer of rhenium metal onto the surface of the carbon substrate. A fine grain rhenium coating on carbon is produced having an average particle diameter of from about 0.1 to about 25 micrometers. The elements may be used alone or several of them may be bonded together into various articles. Such elements and articles are useful as light weight, high temperature strength, corrosive gas resistant structural elements.

  • Patent number: 5573859
Abstract: A soldering composition is self melting and is auto-regulating. The solder composition (100) has a central core (102) made from a non-magnetic metal. A coating (105) of a magnetic material surrounds most or all of the central core. A solder layer (108) overlies the coating of magnetic material, and the solder layer has a melting temperature that is lower than the Curie temperature of the magnetic material. The auto-regulating temperature substantially corresponds to the Curie temperature. When the solder composition is placed in a field of alternating current, the magnetic material heats up and melts the solder coating. When the Curie temperature is reached, the magnetic material stops heating, thus controlling the maximum temperature of the soldering composition. As the temperature of the composition drops below the Curie temperature, the magnetic material again heats up, thus keeping the temperature of the solder constant.

  • Patent number: 5552000
Abstract: An explosive composition is derived from a non-aqueous emulsion of a solution of a self-explosive dispersed as the discontinuous phase (D-phase) throughout a continuous phase (C-phase) which is substantially immiscible with the D-phase. The emulsion is prepared by dropping the solution of self-explosive into a dispersion of surfactant or emulsifier in fuel, at a temperature high enough to prevent precipitation of the self-explosive from solution. Upon cooling and aging, the emulsion becomes a pourable or pumpable mass which gradually is destabilized. Upon destabilization and recrystallization in a cavity, a mass of crystals of self-explosive becomes shaped to the cavity.
