  • Patent number: 4484739
Abstract: A slide structure for sleds for human occupancy is disclosed, and is designed to have human occupant sleds sliding down into a body of water. The slide structure has a support framework on which a plastic sheet material is provided and a water supply means supplies only a thin film of water to the upper surface of the plastic sheet material. This conserves power and water, yet the thin film provides a very low coefficient of friction, so that the sleds attain a high speed for a quiet, fast, smooth, and more exciting ride, yet with reduced wear on both the slide and sleds.

  • Patent number: 4481964
Abstract: A combination walking stick and shooting rest comprises a generally L-shaped body having an elongated first member and a second member extending generally perpendicular to the first member at one end. A plurality of serrations extend along the forward and rearward edge of the elongated first member. An adjustable shooting support includes a rectangular aperture through one end thereof which receives the first member. The support can be moved along the first member when oriented generally perpendicular thereto. Once located at a desired position along the first member, the support is canted to engage the serrations and provide support at the selected location. The end of the elongated first member opposite to the second member is tapered to a point for insertion into the ground. The second member includes an upwardly concave surface which serves as a fixed support and also accommodates the palm of a user's hand.

  • Patent number: 4479646
Abstract: A gymnastic bicycle includes a frame mountable on the floor and having at a forward portion a tubular part or stem which supports a handlebar and at a rear portion a tubular part supporting a seat and provided with a pedal shaft operable by pedals. Incorporated in an articulation zone between the lower end of the tubular piece or stem supporting the handlebar and the frame of the bicycle is a friction device having an adjustable resistance which permits the physical force of the user to be adjusted when he practices an exercise corresponding to rowing, such exercise taking place by the forward and backward oscillation of the handlebar. At such articulation zone is a main vibrating mechanism whose main operating element is a polygonal member securely mounted on the pedal shaft so that the vibrations produced as a result of the operation of the main vibrating mechanism are transmitted to the handlebar of the bicycle.

  • Patent number: 4469324
Abstract: A motorized reel is mounted at a fixed location and constructed and arranged to reel-in a lead rope having a runner-connector at its free end. A set of controls including a throttle and a brake is provided at the fixed location for reeling-in the runner at a controllable speed which, typically, is at least slightly faster than the runner is used to running when unaided. Just ahead of the runner-connector on the lead rope is a kill-switch actuator for closing a kill switch and thus terminating the reeling-in action as the runner nears the fixed location. The runner connector is a ring and pulley with a short length of secondary rope looped around the pulley sheave and provided with hand grips at its opposite ends so that normal alternating pumping action of the runner's arms is accommodated by left-right oscillation of the secondary rope along the pulley sheave.

  • Patent number: 4469325
Abstract: An exercise machine for simulating the stroke of a canoe paddle is disclosed. A tube is pivotably mounted on the longitudinal axis of a frame. A paddle-like shaft is pivotally connected to a frictional resistance element sidably mounted on the tube. The frictional resistance element provides greater resistance to movement in one directional sense than to movement in the other directional sense to that the stroke and return stroke of a canoe paddle can be simulated. The frictional resistance element is formed of an outer member having a conical inner surface and an inner member having a conical outer surface, the inner member being fabricated into two halves on either side of a longitudinal plane. The tube passes through a longitudinal bore of the inner member, the bore being lined with frictional material. Forces acting to move the frictional resistance element in a first direction cause the outer member to compress the halves of the inner member as a function of the cone angle.

  • Patent number: 4465279
Abstract: A playing device, in particular, a die having a body shape as a regular dodecahedron having twelve faces and a plurality of countable indicia one to six. Each total from one to six appears on precisely two opposite faces. Moreover, the two faces containing a given total lie on parallel opposing faces so that each opposite face is provided with the same number of recesses and therefore the die will be evenly balanced at all parts from its center. Each indicia is conical in shape and is recessed in the body adjacent to the dodecahedron faces. The faces of the die are pentagonal in shape and the placement of the indicia are such that the indicia on each planar face is identical to the number of indicia on the opposite planar face parallel to the first mentioned planar face. Thereby providing a perfect balanced die with its center of mass coincides with its geometrical center whereby greater random playing results are achieved and less chance for trickery.

  • Patent number: 4463945
Abstract: An exercise machine which entails simultaneous peddling and rowing actions to afford a total body workout. The machine includes a stationary bicycle frame having front and rear sections and a beam bridging these sections. A bicycle saddle is supported on an upright post anchored at an intermediate position on the beam, at which position a sprocket wheel is mounted whose axle is coupled to foot pedals engageable by the feet of the seated individual. A front wheel is supported for rotation above ground on the front section, this wheel being linked by an endless chain to the sprocket wheel. The front wheel is engaged by a spring-biased pressure roller imposing an adjustable load thereon to resist the peddling action. Pivotally supported on the front section on either side of the front wheel is a pair of poles terminating in handle bars to be grasped by the seated individual, the poles being joined by a connector so that they swing together.
