  • Patent number: 7623473
Abstract: Topology discovery and identification of switches enables a user to determine the topology of a three-stage switch network. The method includes ascertaining an intended topology of the three-stage switch network, creating a list of switch boards that are present in the three-stage switch network, and determining a switch board connection pattern by obtaining information indicating how each switch board is connected to neighboring switch boards. The method further includes classifying each of the switch boards on the list of switch boards as a node switch board, an intermediate switch board, or a jump switch board, and creating a list for each type of switch board. The method further includes grouping the intermediate and node switch boards into sectors, and numbering each type of switch board, thereby obtaining a determined topology, and validating the determined topology by comparing it to the intended topology.

  • Patent number: 7616636
Abstract: Data blocks to be received each comprise a header and a data field including respectively first and second codes for error detection. The decoding of a signal segment received having first and second portions corresponding respectively to the header and to the data field of a block gave rise to a verification of the first code in the first portion. If the first code is correct, a check is made to verify whether the second portion of the decoded signal has a second correct code. A data block is considered to be detected either in the presence of first and second correct codes, or in the presence only of a first correct code when a data likelihood criterion, evaluated during the decoding of the second portion of the signal, is fulfilled.

  • Patent number: 7613111
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for dynamically blocking and unblocking media over packet resources includes, at a first media gateway controller that controls a first media over packet resource, determining whether establishment of calls involving a second media over packet resource managed by second media gateway controller would violate a policy of the first media gateway controller. In response to determining that the establishment of calls involving the second media over packet resource would violate a policy of the first media gateway controller, the first media gateway controller may send a message to the second media gateway controller for limiting the establishment of calls involving the second media over packet resource.

  • Patent number: 7609617
Abstract: A method is disclosed for upgrading network protocol software, comprising receiving a new version of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) software on a standby route processor that is coupled to an active route processor in a redundant arrangement; transferring, from the active route processor to the standby route processor, one or more transport protocol connections that are associated with one or more active BGP sessions of the active route processor; transferring, from the active route processor to the standby route processor, BGP session information representing the active BGP sessions; progressively shutting down an active BGP process of the active route processor; and switching control of BGP data processing to the standby route processor. The route processors may be placed in a stateful switchover mode of operation temporarily only during the transferring, shutting down, and switching. Thus a hitless BGP upgrade approach is provided.

Abstract: A method for providing Topology Change functionality in a Local Area Network (LAN) comprises a plurality of operations. An operation is performed for determining that a Multiple Spanning Tree Instance (MSTI) Master port on a Bridge of a LAN has transitioned to Forwarding state from a corresponding Common Internal Spanning Tree Instance (CSTI) Root port state and an operation is performed for transitioning a Port Transmit state machine of the Bridge from an Idle state to a Transmit state for enabling issuance of a Topology Change (TC) BPDU message from the MSTI Master port. The operation of transitioning the Port Transmit state machine is performed in response to performing the operation of determining that the Multiple Spanning Tree Instance (MSTI) Master port has transitioned to Forwarding state.

  • Patent number: 7602779
Abstract: A first object of the present invention is to reduce interrupt to a CPU which occurs when microprocessors that are connected by a network receive a packet from the network to efficiently operate the processors. A second object of the present invention is to provide a microprocessor and a communication method, which make it possible to reply a quick response to the microprocessor at the transmitting side. Each of the microprocessors includes the CPU and a communication module. The communication module includes a register that stores information which is managed by the microprocessor. The communication module compares information at a given bit position within the packet which is inputted through the network with information retained in the register, and determines whether a process corresponding to the packet reception is conducted by the CPU, or not, according to the comparison result.

  • Patent number: 7599367
Abstract: A mechanism for a network device to constrain multicast flooding of out-of-profile multicast frames is provided by defining a multicast flood domain that includes a subset of ports that are members of the broadcast domain. Such a multicast flood domain can be user configured or dynamically configured to include device ports that are coupled to network elements that should receive such out-of-profile multicast transmissions and exclude network elements that should not receive such multicast transmissions. In one embodiment of the present invention, such capability is provided by incorporating into a network device a mechanism for performing a multicast flood domain lookup of an address table in the event that an out-of-profile multicast frame is received.

  • Patent number: 7564802
Abstract: A method for optimal assignment of customer edge (CE) routers to virtual private network route forwarding (VRF) tables uses a “peer model”, in which the CE routers communicate their routes to a Service Provider's edge routers (PE routers). The routes of a particular VPN are then exchanged among the PE routers that are attached to that VPN. This is accomplished in a manner which ensures that routes from different VPNs remain distinct and separate, even if two VPNs comprise an overlapping address space. The PE routers distribute, to the CE routers in a particular VPN, the routes from other CE routers in that VPN. The CE routers do not peer with each other and, as such, there is no “overlay” visible to a VPN's routing algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7561579
Abstract: The invention relates a method for providing a level of service for a Mobile Terminal (MT) in a packet data telecommunications network. The further method receives at the MT from a proxy server a request message for requesting the quality of service for a session between the MT and the proxy server. The method generates, based on a proxy server IP address received during a registration of the MT at the proxy server, a token for correlating accounting information and inform the proxy server of the quality of service to be applied to packet data sent on to be sent during the session, wherein the token includes the proxy server IP address and a session identity parameter and responsive to the reception of the request from the IMS proxy server, sending a response message including the token to the proxy server.

  • Patent number: 7512080
Abstract: Principles of the invention are directed to techniques for allowing a router forwarding packets within a computer network to perform two or more forwarding tree decisions per memory access. The router may implement forwarding information in the form of a radix tree having a number of nodes, and received packets may contain keys identifying a packet destination. The router may traverse the tree by testing two or more path control bits within the key per each of the traversed nodes. The values of the path control bits in the key determine the path traversed along the tree. The router also stores intermediate bit patterns at each node and tests intermediate bits in the key to determine whether a particular node is the best match to the routing prefix contained in the key, thereby eliminating a need to backtrack up the tree.

  • Patent number: 7466646
Abstract: A method and system are provided for automatically rerouting logical circuit data from a physical circuit failure in a data network. When a failure in a logical circuit is detected, a label or services name associated with the logical circuit is automatically associated with a logical circuit identifier utilized for identifying the logical circuit in the data network. Once the logical circuit is associated with the logical circuit identifier, the logical circuit data may be automatically rerouted to a “failover network,” thereby minimizing lost data until the failure in the logical circuit is resolved. The logical failover circuit may be an already existing logical circuit provisioned over a dedicated backup physical circuit in the data network.
