    Abstract: A concrete mat apparatus, includes a plurality of elongated concrete members, each member being aligned with and next to another concrete member. Each of the concrete members has an upper generally flat surface, a lower generally flat surface, and a plurality of inclined surfaces that each extend away from an upper or lower surface. Reinforcement extends from a first end portion of each concrete member to a second end portion thereof, the reinforcement including a plurality of longitudinally extending reinforcement bars and a plurality of encircling tie bars at spaced apart intervals. Cabling connects each of the elongated concrete members to another of the elongated concrete members. The upper inclined surfaces of one of the elongated concrete members forms a plane with the lower inclined surface of an adjacent elongated concrete member. A plurality of loops are provided along opposed edges of the mat.

    Abstract: High-strength, fatigue-resistant pipe connectors suitable for use in offshore risers, tendons and pipelines, such as may be connected to floating production systems (FPSs) principally used in the production of oil and gas. The present connectors include tubular pin and box components with mating frusto-conical, concentrically-grooved mating surfaces which threadingly interlock, and non-threaded (e.g., flat) mating surfaces that seal and preload (e.g., preload at least a portion of each component in compression), via axial advancement of the pin component into the box component. In such connectors, axial movement of the pin into the mating box results the in radial expansion of the box and radial contraction of the pin until the concentric thread patterns match and interlockingly snap into the connected position.

    Abstract: To prevent lateral soil migration beneath a slab foundation lifted over a ground surface, a plurality of skirts are placed in the ground surface to define a foundation perimeter. A slab foundation is formed within an interior space of the foundation perimeter. The plurality of skirts are secured to the slab foundation via one or more anchors protruding from a portion of each skirt toward the interior space of the foundation perimeter. The slab foundation is raised above the ground surface to create a void that permits vertical expansion of soil without subjecting the slab foundation varying forces associated with the dynamic nature of the soil. The plurality of skirts are raised along with the slab foundation and operate as a barrier that circumscribes the void space and resists lateral soil migration into the void from the exterior of the foundation perimeter.

    Abstract: A system for forming an underwater air curtain, that turns the ocean above it into a gas is anchored on the ocean floor, so the curtain's bubbles travel from the ocean floor to the surface. The system is formed by arrays of air distribution tubes carrying air dispersal heads that are powered by an air supply and air batteries. In the shallows, of 30 ft. or less, ocean waves are deleted, oil is repelled, marine animals have a barrier that they cannot enter when the system is activated. Used at deeper depths, the system has the ability to change ocean temperatures, by using bubbles to bring cold water from the ocean floor to the surface thus protecting coral. The system also works as a sound barrier, because the ocean is no longer solid above it.
