  • Patent number: 8576700
Abstract: In a bearer-independent core network, the switching and transport of the bearer streams is separated from the processing of call sessions that control the bearer streams. The switching and transport of the bearer streams is executed by media gateways and packet switches in the switching and transport layer of the network. The processing of calls sessions that control the bearer streams is executed by call servers in the call control layer of the network. The switching and transport layer of the network may be implemented using ATM or IP technology. In order to redirect the signaling links to a backup call server, a signaling gateway is used. Each media gateway includes a signaling gateway function. The signaling gateways redirect the signaling links by encapsulating each signaling message in a new packet in one embodiment.

  • Patent number: 8576848
Abstract: Example scalable multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) based networks, and methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to implement the same are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes determining at an area border router (ABR) an OSPF metric representing a cost associated with transporting data between a provider edge router (PER) and the ABR within a non-zero OSPF area, replacing at the ABR a first MPLS label included in a BGP message received from the PER with a second MPLS label associated with the PER and assigned by the ABR, replacing at the ABR a next-hop attribute included in the BGP message with a value representing a loopback address of the ABR, updating at the ABR a route cost attribute included in the BGP message to include the OSPF metric, and re-advertising from the ABR the modified BGP message into an OSPF area 0.

  • Patent number: 8571022
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for packet filtering in a wireless communication network. In a particular embodiment, a wireless network receives from a requesting device a request for a plurality of data packets to be transferred by a source for delivery to the requesting device. The network then generates session information associating the source of the data packets with the requesting device. Additionally, the network receives a first subset of the data packets from the source for delivery to a destination identified by the data packets. After receiving the packets, the network identifies a destination device based on the destination identified by the packets. The network processes the session information to determine whether the destination device is associated with the source of the packets. If the destination device is associated with the source, the network transfers the packets for delivery to the destination device.

  • Patent number: 8570907
Abstract: Some embodiments use several different types of networks to relay several different types of media content among several different computing devices. The media content of some embodiments is data that a computing device can process in order to provide a presentation of the media content to a user of the device. Examples of types of such media content include audio data, video data, text data, picture data, game data, and/or other media data. In some embodiments, two different networks relay media content of two different types among multiple computing devices. Specifically, in some embodiments, a first network routes among the computing devices one type of media data content (e.g., game data), while a second network routes among the computing devices another type of media data content (e.g., audio and/or video data of game participants). The two networks differ in some embodiments based on their topology.

  • Patent number: 8565098
Abstract: A method, device, and system for traffic switching in Multi-Protocol Label Switching Traffic Engineering (MPLS TE) are disclosed. The method includes: transmitting traffic over a standby Label Switching Path (LSP) after detecting fault of an active LSP; detecting that the forwarding entry on the active LSP is delivered completely after the fault of the active LSP is rectified; and switching the traffic to the active LSP, and transmitting the traffic over the active LSP. The present invention ensures that the forwarding entry on the active LSP is delivered completely, and prevents packet loss and traffic loss in the case of switching the traffic back from the standby LSP to the active LSP, thus improving the user experience and enhancing the network availability and stability.

  • Patent number: 8537780
Abstract: A first access point located in a first cell may be coupled to a second access point located in a second cell. Service may be initially provided to an access device by the first access point cell. The access device may subsequently be serviced by a second access point whenever a signal for the access device falls below a specified threshold level. The second cell may be a neighboring cell, which may be located adjacent to the first cell. A first signal may be transmitted from a first beamforming antenna coupled to the first access point, to the second access point via an uplink channel. Similarly, a second signal may be transmitted from a second beamforming antenna coupled to the second access point, to the first access point via a downlink channel. The uplink and downlink channels may be a backhaul channel.

  • Patent number: 8531983
Abstract: Current approaches for determining and identifying whether a correct length of fiber cable is installed between network elements configured to communicate using specific lengths of cable require manual inspection. Such manual inspection may include the use of markers used for visual inspection of cables matching corresponding network elements. An embodiment of the present invention utilizes identifiers unique to cables of various lengths to determine whether a correct length of cable has been installed. Further, embodiments of the present invention determine whether the unique identifier is received by a network device according to a channel mapping corresponding to a unique physical mapping associated with cables of various lengths. The use of the identifiers and channel mappings enable automatic discovery of lengths of cable that are installed between network devices.

  • Patent number: 8526331
Abstract: A method of maintaining routing tables at nodes of an overlay network, where a routing table of a given node contains, for each of a set of neighboring successor and predecessor nodes, a mapping between an overlay network address of the node and a physical locator of the node. The method comprises, upon or immediately prior to departure of a node from the overlay network, sending a Leave request from the departing node (or one of the neighboring nodes of the departing node aware of the departure) to each neighboring node (or each other neighboring node of the departing node), indicating the departure and containing one or more mappings for nodes not contained within the routing table of the recipient node. Each neighboring node (or each other neighboring node) receives the Leave request and uses said mapping(s) to update its routing table.

  • Patent number: 8520686
Abstract: A system and method are provided for interfacing a Fiber Channel network to an Ethernet based network. The method includes the operation of establishing a connection between a Fiber Channel device and an NPIV interface in an Ethernet interconnect module (210). Another operation is processing a fabric login from a server on the Ethernet based network, along with a server identifier that is sent to the Fiber Channel device (220). Acknowledgement frames for fabric login from the Fiber Channel device can be examined in order to identify the N_Port ID of the server (230). In another operation, the server's MAC address can be retrieved from a table using the N_Port ID (240). Then an Ethernet packet can be sent to the server using the server MAC address (250). The Ethernet packet contains a Fabric Provided MAC Address used to enable the server to communicate with the Fiber Channel device.

  • Patent number: 8498286
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for allowing a single platform to recognize and process both Diameter messages and Radius messages. A gateway is provided for translating Radius messages received from a wireline device into NASReq messages. A Diameter Proxy Agent receives both Diameter messages from a wireless device and the NASReq messages from the gateway. The Diameter Proxy Agent selects a PCRF to which to pass a NASReq message, and upon receipt of a NASReq message the PCRF either creates or updates a NASReq session object. By recognizing and processing Radius messages, wireline services can be offered at the same time as wireless services without requiring the use of a second platform. In addition, use of the PCRF server to support wireline services offers much better scalability than that offered by traditional AAA servers.
