  • Patent number: 8121124
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for applying adaptive thresholds to multicast streams within computer networks. For example, an access node may implement the techniques to facilitate efficient delivery of multicast streams. The access node comprises an interface that couples to a subscriber network having a subscriber device. The access node also includes a control unit that determines a multicast stream count reflecting current delivery of multicast streams to the subscriber network and a threshold value based on historical multicast stream counts delivered to the subscriber. The interface receives a message requesting to join a multicast group in accordance with a multicast management protocol. In response to this message, the control unit determines a projected stream count based on the above current multicast count. The control unit then compares the projected stream count to the threshold value, and admits the subscriber device to the multicast group based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8107488
Abstract: A system includes a passive cable splitter and an ultra wideband adapter located at a customer premises. The passive cable splitter receives a video signal and a modulated ultra wideband data signal from a remotely-located ultra wideband adapter via a first cable. The video signal and the modulated ultra wideband data signal are output to a set-top box device via a second cable. The ultra wideband adapter located at the customer premises includes a combined signal interface to receive the video signal and the modulated ultra wideband data signal via a third cable. A demodulator extracts a data signal from the modulated ultra wideband data signal to generate a computer readable data signal. The computer readable data signal is output to a computing device via a data connection interface.

  • Patent number: 8107484
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and device for advertising routing information and a method and system for implementing packet routing. The method for advertising routing information includes a routing information advertising device that obtains its address information; the routing information advertising device adds the address information to routing information to advertise; and the routing information advertising device advertises the routing information that carries the address information. With the technical solution of the present disclosure, the number of routing tables in a backbone network may be greatly reduced. This minimizes the rise of router costs and effectively avoids slower route convergence. In addition, a router in the backbone network can dynamically obtain address information of a core router that advertises an aggregate prefix, such that it may be easier to implement registration, update and query the mapping between a more detailed address prefix and a border router.

  • Patent number: 8102808
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling transmission of a data stream from a station. A QoS registration frame is received, via an access point, from the station. The QoS registration frame includes information indicating a request for transmission of a data stream from the station, and information indicating a minimum required interval and a maximum required interval for an interval which is between start points of two successive durations of a medium dedication. Each duration of the medium dedication represents a time period in which the station is permitted to transmit the data stream. A schedule for the transmission of the data stream is calculated by setting a new interval which is between the minimum required interval and the maximum required interval, when the transmission is admitted. A QoS response frame, which includes information indicating the schedule, is then transmitted from the access point to the station.

  • Patent number: 8098656
Abstract: MP-BGP VPN infrastructure based on IETF RFC 4364/2547 is used to configure a layer 2 VPN on an IP network. VRFs for the VPN are configured on Ethernet switches and service IP addresses are associated with each configured VRF. The service IP addresses are exchanged to enable VPN traffic to be encapsulated for transport over the IP network. To enable a L2 VPN to be established on the network, a VPN-VLAN ID will be configured for the L2 VPN and import/export route targets for the VPN-VLAN will be set in each VRF and UNI-VLAN that is part of the VPN. The VPN-VLAN will be announced to all PEs using MP-iBGP with export route targets set for this VPN-VLAN. The PE's control plane learns the VPN-VLAN on a logical port if the import RT matches the export RT received by the MP-iBGP control plane. Once the VPN-VLAN is learned on a logical port, the PE will perform MAC learning on that logical port and treat the logical port as if it were part of the L2 VLAN.

  • Patent number: 8081637
Abstract: When a network apparatus of this invention receives an IEEE 802.3ad link application control packet from a subscriber line with a VPWS function, it processes the packet in a control unit without relaying the packet by VPWS. More specifically, the network apparatus receives an IEEE802.3ad link aggregation control packet along with receiving an IEEE802.3x flow control packet. The network apparatus transmits a link aggregation control packet. The network apparatus also relays other layer 2 control protocol packets without receiving them, and does not transmit the other layer 2 control protocol packets.
