  • Patent number: 9820126
Abstract: A wireless emergency alert system (also known as a wireless emergency alert system, or “WEA,” and formerly known as a commercial mobile alert system, or “CMAS”) receives a geotargeted federal alert that is to be delivered to mobile devices within a defined geographic region. A database of locations of access points is utilized by the system to identify those access points that are likely present in the defined region. The system identifies mobile devices that have an ongoing connection (e.g. IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) session) with the identified access points, in part by maintaining and accessing a look-up table containing location information for the access point and connected mobile devices. In addition, the system tracks mobile devices that no longer have an ongoing session and deregisters the appropriate mobile devices in the look-up table.

  • Patent number: 9820093
Abstract: In some implementations, a beaconing protocol can be used to broadcast beacon information to mobile devices. The beaconing protocol can be used by a Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) (e.g., Bluetooth 4.0) beacon to transmit a package of information that identifies the beacon and indicates the calibrated transmission power (e.g., measured power) of the beacon. The package of information can be configured by beacon providers and/or beacon installers at the locations where the beacons are installed. When a mobile device receives the beacon package, the mobile device can use the beacon identification information and/or the measured power of the beacon to determine a location (e.g., precise location, geofence location) of the mobile device. In some implementations, the mobile device can transmit the beacon information to a server and the server can determine the location of the mobile device and send location and/or content information back to the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9813849
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating suggestions based on group criteria. A device may act as a proxy for a group and scan information from other devices in the group. The proxy device may then transmit the scanned information to a remote resource. The remote resource may obtain preference information based on profile information, for devices that are determined to be registered with a service, and based on inquiry responses for unregistered devices. The preference information may be compiled into group criteria that may be employed in making one or more suggestions to the group. If the group selects one of the suggestions then the remote resource may make arrangements based on the selection. Otherwise, additional suggestions may be provided to the group. The remote resource may also monitor the group and continue to make suggestions accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9813539
Abstract: An adapter may facilitate easy and swift data transfer amongst two previously incompatible electronic devices. Such an adapter may be operative to communicate data with a first of the two electronic devices using a contactless communication link and a first communication protocol and to communicate data with a second of the two electronic devices using a mechanical communication link and/or using a second communication protocol that is different than the first communication protocol, such that data may be transferred between the first and second electronic devices via the adapter. The adapter may be communicatively coupled to both the first electronic device and the second electronic device at the same time. The adapter may rapidly transition between communicating data with the first device and communicating data with the second device (e.g., without altering a physical connection between the adapter and one of the first and second devices during such a transition).

  • Patent number: 9775026
Abstract: Privacy centric feature analysis. A secure set of multiple mapped features is selected and provided to a mobile device. Each mapped feature maps a sharable feature to a matching criterion for an item of protected information and no combination of mapped features for a secure set are unique to an individual item of protected information. Privacy compliance instructions enable the mobile device to select a mapped feature from a received set of mapped features by identifying an item of protected information available to the mobile device which corresponds to a matching criterion found in the received set of mapped features. The sharable feature of the selected mapped feature is identified and sent to a privacy compliant destination. Advantageously, the analysis system protects the privacy of the mobile device user because it does not require the mobile device to relay protected information for the selection of customized content or relevant advertisements.

  • Patent number: 9769639
Abstract: Technology for securely processing emergency response. An emergency response server receives intermittent location data from a client device during non-emergency responses. Upon determining an emergency situation is occurring, the emergency response server sends an unencrypted notification to a client device to activate the client device remotely. Once the emergency response server receives an encrypted message from the client device, the emergency response server sends an encrypted emergency client device, causing the client device to enter an emergency mode. The emergency response server then receives encrypted location information at more frequent intervals from the client device in the emergency mode and displays the location of the client device. Once the emergency situation has ended, the location of the client device is no longer displayed, and a signal is sent to cause the client device to exit the emergency mode.
