Abstract: Dipeptides containing C-terminal phosphinothricin of the formula ##STR1## in which phosphinothricin is attached to a--preferably natural--amino acids at the amino group are effective herbicides in the pre-emergence and post-emergence techniques. The compounds are obtained, for example, by reacting phosphinothricin with the hydroxysuccinimide ester of an amino acids which is protected at the amino group in the presence of a base and subsequently splitting off the protective groups.

Abstract: Process for the production of gaseous mixtures comprising H.sub.2 +CO e.g. synthesis gas, reducing gas, or fuel gas by the partial oxidation of a vanadium-containing liquid hydrocarbonaceous fuel, solid carbonaceous fuel, or mixtures thereof in a free-flow vertical refractory lined gas generator. The feed mixture to the gas generator comprises (i) a vanadium-containing fuel; (ii) supplemental copper-containing additive; and (iii) at least a portion of the remainder of the copper-containing slag after separation of an enriched vanadium-containing coarse slag fraction. Materials (ii) and (iii) combine in the partial oxidation reaction zone with at least a portion of the nickel and iron constituents and the sulfur found in the feedstock to produce a liquid phase washing agent that collect and transports at least a portion of the vanadium-containing oxide laths and spinels and other ash components out of the reaction zone as molten vanadium-containing slag.

Abstract: A method for the manufacture of an oxydicarboxylic acid salt which comprises subjecting to dehydrogenation an polyethylene glycol represented by the general formula I:HO--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O.sub.n H (I)wherein n is 2 to 14, in the presence of the hydroxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of alkali metals and alkaline earth meatals, water and a catalyst containing copper and zirconium compound.
Abstract: An aqueous dispersion of unreacted particulate petroleum coke substantially comprising carbon and containing a small amount of ash substantially comprising vanadium constituents and other materials from a process for the partial oxidation of petroleum coke to produce synthesis gas is mixed with a hydrocarbon alkoxy sulfate and a frothing agent. After pH adjustment, if necessary, the mixture is subjected to aeration with or without mechanical agitation in a froth flotation zone. About 5 to 25 wt. % of the unconverted particulate petroleum coke (basis carbon) particles float in the froth layer that is formed. The remainder of the unconverted petroleum coke comprising coarser particles is suspended in a bottom aqueous dispersion on which the froth layer floats. In addition, selective separation of the vanadium constituents in the unconverted petroleum coke ash takes place. The vanadium content of the ash in the floated portion of unconverted petroleum coke is unexpectedly increased about 10 to 50 weight percent.

Abstract: Granules of magnesium salts are obtained by spraying onto agitated feed particles of the salt a small amount of a dilute aqueous solution of a synthetic poly hydroxy-substituted compound, such as polyvinylalcohol, and drying the resultant agglomerate. It is especially suitable to carry out the granulation process in a warm air fluidized bed using feed particles of mainly below 200 microns producing eventually a low bulk density product mainly in the range 200-100 microns. The granular salts have a particle size of from 0.15 to 1.0 mm and a free-flowing bulk density of from 0.3 to 0.6 kg/l.

Abstract: Increased energy costs have stimulated a demand for peroxygen compounds that are effective at ambient to hand-hot temperatures, but peroxyacids and acyl peroxides tend to suffer from one or more of poor thermal stability, or sensitivity to impact or moisture, thereby rendering their manufacture or storage hazardous, or from poor solubility. The instant invention provides salts of the formula (in anhydrous form): ##STR1## in which M represents potassium and n=1 or M represents magnesium and n=2. The solids can be incorporated in low temperature bleaching compositions, in washing compositions, in sanitizing compositions or in disinfection/sterilisation compositions.
