  • Patent number: 5372669
Abstract: Film-forming means are coextruded to form all plastic multilayer liners and facestocks for pressure-sensitive labels, tapes, decals, signs, bumper stickers, and other products formed from sheet and roll stock. Fill means in a charge for the liner coextrusion affects stiffness and dimensional stability of the liner and/or affects the roughness of a liner face or faces. The film materials of the layers of the constructions are selected according to the cost/benefit characteristics of candidate materials considering the functional or operational requirements of the layer in question.

  • Patent number: 5372771
Abstract: A method of making a transparent panel is provided. The transparent panel effectively blocks the penetration of a bullet when fired from one side of the panel, but not when fired from the other side of the panel. The method comprises forming a sheet of acrylic resin and a sheet of polycarbonate resin, both of equal size and configuration. A sealing strip is applied completely around the peripheral edge of one of the sheets and the two sheets are then brought together, being spaced apart by the sealing strip. Two holes are then drilled into one of the two sheets at locations spaced at diagonally opposite corner edges of the sheet. Under pressure applied to the opposite faces of the two sheets, a liquid resin is injected into the space between the two sheets through one of the two holes until the entire volume between the two sheets is filled. Then the resin is permitted to harden.

  • Patent number: 5370761
Abstract: An original equipment type seal for recharged toner cartridges can be installed without splitting the cartridge itself, by screening a border of "hot-melt" type adhesive, preferably wax-based, onto a strip of polyester, the adhesive being capable of softening or melting at a temperature above the softening or coagulating point of the toner powder itself, but below the softening points of the plastic components of the cartridge. The polyester seal is inserted into the cartridge with the aid of a room temperature or even cold, metallic insertion tool, preferably made of a high magnetic permeability steel. Heating this cold tool, or subsequently inserting a hot tool, will cause the adhesive to melt and seal the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5358580
Abstract: A hose manufacturing process and a method therefor capable of leading to an increase in production efficiency and productivity and improving configurational and dimensional stability of the hose. A die is provided for co-extruding a flexible synthetic resin material and a rigid synthetic resin material to concurrently form an inner tube of a small diameter and a reinforcement which is concentric with the inner tube and has a diameter larger than the inner tube, respectively. Also, a cutter is arranged forward of the die in a direction of extrusion of the reinforcement for cutting the reinforcement into a spiral shape. Further, a compression air feed passage is formed in the die so as to feed compressed air into the inner tube, to thereby expand it. This permits the inner tube to be contacted with the reinforcement for adhesion therebetween.
