  • Patent number: 5556466
Abstract: In order to improve a coating plant for workpieces, in particular for vehicle bodies, comprising a coat application section, a coat drier section following the application section and comprising a drier booth arranged at a higher level in relation to the coat application section, a skid conveyor on the inlet side passing through the coat application section, the skid conveyor moving workpieces mounted on skid frames through the coat application section at a process feeding speed for the application of the coating, and a drier conveying device following the skid conveyor and conveying the skid frames with the coated workpieces mounted thereon through the coat drier section, such that this is simpler in its construction than the known coating plants it is suggested that the drier conveying device be a drier conveyor following the skid conveyor and moving the skid frames at the process feeding speed along a skid frame path through the coat drier section, that the drier conveyor extend beneath the skid frame path

  • Patent number: 5549793
Abstract: Pinch valves having a flexible, constrictable sleeve are used to control a dilution headbox for a paper making machine. A variety of pinch valves may be used in the present invention with the pinch valves being actuated by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure or by mechanically pinching the valves' sleeves by means of rams driven by stepper or linear drive motors. For pneumatic control, dynamic differential pressure drops are measured across the valves to determine flow rate through the valves. A pinch valve, referred to herein as a torsional pinch valve, is disclosed for dilution headbox control. In one form, a first end of a sleeve is fixedly mounted in a support frame and the second end of the sleeve is mounted for rotation in the frame. A driver rotates the second end of the sleeve such that a flow path through the sleeve is controlled. The flow path is a maximum when no torsion is placed on the sleeve and is reduced to substantially zero by sufficient rotation.

  • Patent number: 5549753
Abstract: Molded fibrous workpieces of various cross sectional configurations are coated with a polymeric latex foam coating material to encapsulate fibers and dust within the exterior surfaces of the workpieces. The foam coating is applied by passing the workpieces through a coating chamber filled with the polymeric foam so that the workpieces are totally immersed in the foam coating as the workpieces pass through the chamber. Openings for introducing the workpieces into and discharging the workpieces from the chamber have a configuration complementary to the transverse configuration of the workpieces. The foam coating is introduced into the chamber both above and below the path of the workpieces through the coating chamber to assure that the coating chamber remains fully charged with the foam coating. Brushes or wiper blades spread the foam coating over the exterior surfaces of the workpieces.

  • Patent number: 5545293
Abstract: A method and device in the regulation of a headbox. The headbox includes a pulp inlet header, after the pulp inlet header, seen in the pulp flow direction, a distributor manifold whose pipes are opened into an intermediate chamber. The headbox comprises an attenuation chamber placed in connection with the intermediate chamber and, after the intermediate chamber, a turbulence generator having tubes which are opened, at their outlet end, into a discharge duct and, at their inlet end, into the intermediate chamber. In the method, into different positions along the width of the headbox, a pulp suspension flow is introduced, the concentration of this flow is adjustable by combining two component flows. In the method, in the regulation of the concentration of the flow passed into the pulp suspension, two component flows are combined by into the pulp suspension flow introducing an additional flow. The mixing ratio of the combined flow is regulated by adjusting the additional component flow.

  • Patent number: 5540817
Abstract: A method and apparatus for temporarily separating a web from one of the two wire belts in a twin wire zone in a paper making machine. In the twin wire zone, the negative pressure from a suction box is applied to the first wire belt for temporarily deflecting and separating the first wire belt and the web from the second wire belt and the wire belts then returning to contact the web following the suction box. The wire belts are then successively separated from the web by an appropriate guide and take up device. The take up device may comprise a press which includes a press nip defined by one of a suction roll over which the second wire in the web is passing or another type of roll or a flexible support device like a rotating press jacket. A smooth surface, such as that of a roll, forms a press nip with the support device for the second wire belt and after that press nip, the web adheres to the smooth surface to be transported further through the machine.

  • Patent number: 5536313
Abstract: An intermittent coating apparatus for intermittently coating a continuously running base member with a coating material includes a nozzle for discharging the coating material toward the base member and an absorption unit for controlling a flow of the coating material. The nozzle has a slit opened toward the base member and a manifold connected to the slit. The absorption unit includes a head having an inlet, an outlet, and a passage connecting the inlet and the outlet. The head is located in a housing. The absorption unit also includes a driving unit for sliding the head in the direction of a shaft located in the housing. By the sliding operation of the head, an absorption space is formed between an end face of the head and the manifold. In order to stop the coating operation, the supply of the coating material from an external supply opening to the inlet of the head is stopped by the sliding movement of the head.

  • Patent number: 5534067
Abstract: A spraying system comprises a conveyor for conveying a series of boards through a spraying station, spray nozzles at the spraying station and a mechanism for controlling spraying from the nozzles onto the board located at the spraying station. The control mechanism comprises a sensor for sensing the speed of the conveyor, a photoelectric cell for sensing the presence of a board on the conveyor and a logic unit which is positioned and arranged for calculating the length of the board in response to signals from the sensor and photoelectric cell. The logic unit is arranged to activate a supply of liquid flux to the nozzles when the leading edge of the board reaches the spraying station and the nozzles are reciprocated across the conveyor as the board is advanced. Sensors control the nozzles so that spray is delivered only onto the board and is stopped as the nozzles reach the side edges of the board.

  • Patent number: 5527371
Abstract: The problem of unevenness of bottle temperatures at the entry of slow annealing furnace due to the variation of time periods necessary for respective bottles discharged from an IS bottle manufacturing machine to reach the annealing furnace has been solved by an equalization of the time periods. For this purpose, the bottle discharging order from the IS bottle manufacturing machine is controlled and use is made of two conveyors having different running speeds and/or direction of running. As a result, a precise temperature control in the Hot-End-Coating apparatus provided upstream from the annealing furnace can be carried out owing to the equalized temperatures of bottles entering into the annealing furnace.
