  • Patent number: 5669952
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for shaping glass sheets to deeply sagged configurations using a lower outline mold and an upper shaping mold while minimizing marking of the sheets by shaping molds. The outline mold includes a support rail which generally corresponding to the desired curvature of a peripheral portion of the sheets to be shaped and supports the glass sheets as they are heated and sagged by gravity to a preliminary shape. The outline mold and the upper mold are then moved relative to each other to position the molds either in close proximity to each other or to press the upper mold against the glass sheets. Pressurized gas is then directed from the mold to at least the unsupported central portions of the preliminarily shaped sheets, to urge these unsupported portions downward and shape the sheets to a desired configuration.

  • Patent number: 5660634
Abstract: A vacuum chuck and an inner cup are rotated together by a spinner for spreading and coating a coating solution uniformly on a glass substrate in the inner cup under centrifugal forces. Under the centrifugal forces, gases that are present inward of a rectangular ridge in the inner cup are forced to flow outwardly through a gap between the rectangular ridge and a flow-rectifying plate 42 and also through holes defined in the rectangular ridge. Therefore, turbulent flows and pressure fluctuations are minimized in a space defined inward of the rectangular ridge, i.e., a space which accommodates the glass substrate placed on a bottom surface of the inner cup inwardly of the rectangular ridge. The coating solution applied to the upper surface of the glass substrate is allowed to form a uniform film thereon.

  • Patent number: 5637126
Abstract: A method is disclosed for producing an ink jet print head which both realizes a higher density and prevents a failure in ink jetting and deterioration in the printing quality. A multiplicity of individual ink passages, each having an narrow width and a large depth, are formed in an array by anisotropic etching a photosensitive glass substrate. A diaphragm is attached to the surface of the glass substrate so as to cover the individual ink passages. A common electrode is provided on the diaphragm, and individual piezoelectric elements are fixed to the common electrode at the portions corresponding to the individual ink passages. Individual electrodes are provided on the respective individual piezoelectric elements. A voltage applied to the common electrode and an individual electrode causes a portion of the diaphragm to corresponding to the individual electrode to be bend and deformed. The ink storing capacity of the corresponding individual ink passage is reduced and some of the ink is forced out.
