  • Patent number: 9760756
Abstract: When a mobile device is known to be at a venue, readings from one or more sensors of the device are used to generate a sensor fingerprint of the venue and/or a venue category corresponding to the venue. The sensor fingerprint indicates typical sensor readings for the one or more physical sensors for devices that are located at the venue and/or venues of the same category. Sensor fingerprints can also be generated for other circumstances associated with the mobile device, such as the activity being undertaken by the corresponding user and a type of event currently occurring at the venue. Fingerprints can also be generated for combinations of circumstances, such as a particular activity at a certain category of venue. When location data cannot distinguish at which venue a mobile device is located, sensor fingerprints are compared to sensor readings received from the device to resolve this ambiguity.

  • Patent number: 9736636
Abstract: Systems, methods and tools for prioritizing the transmission of geofences based on the social influences and interactions with the geofences previously performed or discussed by associates of a user. Embodiments may search a user's social media connections and friend's lists for associates of the user that may have interacted with, commented about or used one or more of the geofences. As a function of the social influences of the user's associates, the disclosed systems, methods and tools may calculate a rating for each geofence based on the popularity of the geofence or probability that the user may enjoy interacting with the geofence. Embodiments may prioritize the transmission of the geofences being downloaded to the user's client device as a function of the ratings assigned, therefore downloading and displaying the most popular geofences and/or the geofences most likely to appeal to the user first.

  • Patent number: 9730019
Abstract: An apparatus receives a message including results of measurements on signals of a WLAN access point. The apparatus determines as a first condition whether the message comprises no indication of a position obtained in a non-cell based positioning and/or no information enabling a non-cell based positioning. The apparatus determines as a second condition whether the message comprises in addition results of measurements on signals of at least one cell of a cellular communications network. If the conditions are met, the apparatus determines a position based on the results of measurements on signals of the at least one cell of a cellular communications network and causes storage of location information that is based on the determined position in a memory for the WLAN access point, in case no location information has previously been stored in the memory for the WLAN access point.
