Abstract: Compositions and methods for enhancing the palatability of dry and semi-dry pet food compositions, particularly extruded cat food compositions, are described. In one embodiment, the palatability enhancer is a dry cat food coating including tetrasodium pyrophosphate at about 0.1% to about 1.0% by weight of the finished pet food product. The palatability enhancer is applied after the extrusion process to the extruded particles or pieces of pet food.
Abstract: Improved milk replacer and dry feed compositions for young mammals are provided that employ a high quality inedible egg product to minimize or eliminate the need for milk source ingredients. These improved compositions include one or more high quality inedible egg products in an amount from about 1% to 100% of the total weight of the composition. The balance of these improved compositions may consist of any ingredient(s) in any combination when such composition is capable of meeting or exceeding the nutritional requirements of the species to be fed. One aspect of the present invention provides a method for producing a high quality inedible egg product. This invention also provides an improved diet program wherein a young mammal is initially fed a milk replacer according to the present invention, and then when it is time to wean the animal of the milk replacer, a dry feed according to the present invention is introduced.
Abstract: A plant fertilizer composition that includes an acid whereby said acid may react with, chelate, or block any metal ions in the soil in which the plants grow during administration of the fertilizer. This reaction renders the metal ions substantially ineffective for reacting with the fertilizer components. The fertilizer is thereby shielded from interference with any metal ions in the soil and the delivery of the fertilizer to the plant roots is thereby enhanced. The acid may be, but is not limited to, an organic acid and is preferably citric acid. The fertilizer composition may include phosphorus. Likes in one embodiment, the fertilizer composition may include phosphate ions and citric acid, the citric acid chelating any metal ions in the soil in which the plants grow thereby facilitating the transportation of phosphate to the plant roots.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a fully edible feed body for domestic animals, comprising a central core having an elongated shape and a substantially circular or square section, to which at least one layer of a seed-based mixture is glued, and in which the central core is obtained by extrusion cooking from a mixture based on water, flour, seeds and optionally sugar.
Abstract: A method for the combined production of (I) a fertilizer selected from a group consisting of ammonium nitrate, ammonium phosphates or a combination thereof through an indirect neutralization of ammonia with an acid selected form a group consisting of nitric acid, phosphoric acid and a combination thereof and of (II) a sulfur compound selected from a group consisting of elemental sulfur, SO2, sulfuric acid and sulfate salts, said method comprising (a) contacting a sulfur oxide containing gas with ammonia and an aqueous liquor, whereby a sulfur oxide containing product is formed and the resulting gas has a reduced SO2 content; (b) reacting a sulfur oxide containing product resulting from step (a) with a reagent selected from a group consisting of nitric acid, phosphoric acid, a mixture thereof and salts formed by the reaction of said acids to form said fertilizer and a sulfur compund, and (c) separating at least a portion said sulfur compound from said fertilizer.
Abstract: A conjugated linoleic acid is prepared in industrial scale as a hydrolyzed isomerized product for blending into bulk domestic animal feeds. The CLA-containing isomerized hydrolyzed oil from sunflower and safflower seeds has sufficiently low levels of phosphatides and sterols to permit crude processing and incorporation into feeds of an undried, undistilled oil fraction without toxic or unpalatable effects.
Abstract: The invention relates to aqueous L-lysine-containing animal feed supplements, which optionally contain inactivated microorganisms from fermentation and have a pH value <7 and a process for producing this preparation.
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for using a waste product which remains when various types of algae (such as Crypthecodinium cohnii) or non-yeast fungi (such as Mortierella alpina) are used to manufacture essential fatty acids. This waste product is a biomass which includes the cell carcasses that remain after one or more essential fatty acids (such as docosahexaenoic acid, DHA) have been extracted from lysed (ruptured) cells. In one preferred embodiment which forms a biscuit-type treat for dogs or cats, algal biomass is mixed with a combination of brewer's yeast, a grain product such as whole wheat, and burnt residues that collect on the interior walls of drying vessels used for spray-drying of yeast extracts. These ingredients are mixed with water to form a dough-like substance, which is made into a desired shape for a dog, cat, or other pet treat. The dough is then cooked to form a pleasant-smelling biscuit-type treat which dogs and cats find highly appealing.
