Abstract: A rafter measuring template includes a length adjustable primary arm, the distance between opposed ends being user-adjustable to indicate a rafter length. A ridge assembly is coupled to the primary arm configured to clamp onto a ridge board and determine potential rafter angle. The ridge assembly includes a clamp portion selectively attachable to the ridge board and securing the primary arm and an angle measurement portion coupled to the clamp portion and pivotal in an up/down manner, the measurement portion having indicia indicative of the angle of the primary arm relative to the ridge board. A wall plate engagement member having a wall plate is coupled to the primary arm defining an upstanding channel having a plurality of spaced apart selectable notches indicative of predetermined rafter widths. A plate engagement flange is capable of nesting flush against the wall plate such that the engagement flange determines a plate notch configuration.

  • Patent number: 9683839
Abstract: In a shape measuring apparatus having a scanning probe to perform scanning measurement using a tip ball provided at an end of a stylus with the tip ball being in contact with an object to be measured, a tip ball displacement detector detects a displacement of the tip ball of the scanning probe, a displacement of a moving mechanism that relatively moves the object to be measured and the scanning probe is detected, and an angle formed by a contact direction of the tip ball with the object to be measured and an axial direction of the stylus is calculated. The displacement of the tip ball that is detected by the tip ball displacement detector is corrected on the basis of the angle, and a corrected value of the displacement is outputted. The corrected value is added to the displacement of the moving mechanism to calculate a measurement value.

  • Patent number: 9651019
Abstract: An arrangement and a method to align a part of a wind turbine to a counterpart is provided. The arrangement includes an alignment tool. The alignment tool includes a first area to be connected to a part of the wind turbine, and a second area that protrudes over the physical dimensions of the part of the wind turbine. The second area is arranged and prepared in a way that it abuts on the counterpart during the alignment of the part of the wind turbine and its counterpart. The arrangement includes a second alignment tool. The second alignment tool protrudes less far over the physical dimensions of the part of the wind turbine then the first alignment tool. Thus the first alignment tool abuts to the counterpart before the second alignment tool when the part of the wind turbine approaches the counterpart.

  • Patent number: 9610663
Abstract: According to exemplary inventive practice, a frame has a geometric vertical axial plane and supports a receptacle, four thumbscrews, and four dial indicators. Each thumbscrew has a dial indicator associated therewith and can be turned to move along its geometric axis, perpendicular to the vertical axial plane. The thumbscrews are paired, with respective axes aligned, on opposite sides of the vertical axial plane. The frame is placed upon a base, the body is secured to the frame using the receptacle to grip a portion of the body, and the dial indicators are calibrated for matching thumbscrew displacement measurements in each opposite thumbscrew pair. The thumbscrews are moved into contact with the base and are adjusted to align the body with the base, as indicated by matching dial indicator readings in each opposite thumbscrew pair. The aligned body is affixed to the base, and the frame (with accompanying components) is removed.

  • Patent number: 9612099
Abstract: A compliant thumb wheel assembly coupled to a caliper jaw that moves along a caliper scale member along a measuring axis direction in a caliper comprises a thumb wheel, a compliant element, and a thumb wheel mounting portion rigidly coupled to the caliper jaw. The compliant element is configured to locate the thumb wheel in an operational arrangement for driving the caliper jaw while at the same time transmitting forces between the thumb wheel and the thumb wheel mounting portion by elastic deformation. When a force is applied to the thumb wheel along the measuring axis direction, the compliant element flexes such that the thumb wheel displaces along the measuring axis direction relative to the thumb wheel mounting portion and the caliper jaw, and generates a measuring force that depends on that relative displacement and which is applied to the caliper jaw along the measuring axis direction.

  • Patent number: 9593926
Abstract: A thread gauge inspection apparatus includes a receiving member to hold a reference thread gauge and a motor to bi-directionally rotate the reference thread gauge. A counter counts a number of turns the reference thread gauge is rotated by the motor, and a torque monitoring device monitors the torque produced by the motor as the reference thread gauge is rotated. A controller, when the monitored torque exceeds a predetermined value, causes the motor to stop rotating the reference thread gauge and causes the counter to stop counting the number of turns the reference thread gauge is rotated. The controller compares the count produced by the counter with an inputted specific turn count and indicates the thread quality of threaded hole or a threaded stud passed inspection when the count produced by the counter is equal to the inputted specific turn count.
