  • Patent number: 6627036
Abstract: In a method for bonding plastic objects together by means of a hot-melt type of adhesive, in addition to or during the heating and addition of a plasticizer-resistant hot-melt adhesive, at least one of the objects to be bonded, is heated up in the area to be bonded beyond the melting temperature of the material of which it is made. The method is particularly advantageous for the joining together of multi-layered plastic pipes. The result is the generation of a method for bonding objects by means of a hot-melt type of adhesive that can also be applied with materials for which it was hitherto impossible to apply hot-melt adhesion.

  • Patent number: 6627020
Abstract: A method to control the post sinter distortion of free sintered multilayer ceramic substrates by placing a discrete non-densifying structure in the green ceramic laminate prior to sintering. One or several discrete non-densifying structures are placed on one or more ceramic greensheets which are then stacked and laminated to form a green ceramic laminate. The laminate is then sintered and the discrete non-densifying structure will locally control the dimensions of the free sintered multilayer ceramic substrate. The method can be used to control post sinter dimensions in MLC substrates manufactured as either single or multi-up substrates by placing the discrete non-densifying structure in the active area or in the kerf area between the individual product ups prior to sintering.

  • Patent number: 6620251
Abstract: A closed container composed of a lid body and a lower container are provided in a cover body, and a supply pipe for nitrogen gas is connected to the cover body. A light source unit including UV lamps in the lid body is provided to face a mounting table in the closed container, and a gas supply path for HMDS gas is provided on the outer side from the light source unit. The inside of the cover body is first brought to a nitrogen atmosphere, a wafer is irradiated with ultraviolet rays with the lid body of the closed container opened to perform cleaning. Subsequently, the lid body is closed and the HMDS gas is introduced into the closed container to perform hydrophobic processing for the wafer. This removes deposits such as organic substances adhering to the wafer W through the irradiation with the ultraviolet rays, thereby improving coating properties of a resist solution.

  • Patent number: 6616782
Abstract: A thermal shock-resistant ceramic article and a method of manufacturing the article include alternating layers of a first material (2) comprising a fusible, particulate ceramic composition and a second material (3), typically comprising a porous, pyrolyzable material. The layered structure increases the article's work of fracture and toughness, and may lead to improved thermal shock-resistance. The method advantageously uses a sheet, film or sleeve to prepare the article for firing. The composition, thickness, and porosity of the second material (3) will affect the desired properties. The method is particularly adapted for manufacturing cylindrical articles, including stopper rods, nozzles, and pouring tubes for the metal casting industry.

  • Patent number: 6602374
Abstract: A system for creating a coil of stamps from a web of stamps is provided. The system includes a security strip feeder which feeds a security strip having first and second sections. A first activator activates only the first section, and an applicator applies the security strip to contact the web of stamps. Thus, the activated first section adheres to the web of stamps, while the second section does not. A cutter cuts the web of stamps into a strip of stamps in a position such that at least a portion of the second section extends beyond the strip of stamps, and a second activator activates the portion of the second section extending beyond the strip. A coiler coils the strip into a coil such that the activated portion of the second section contacts and adheres onto an inner spire of the coil or back onto itself.

  • Patent number: 6592695
Abstract: A binder system for forming a ceramic body, such as a translucent arc tube for a metal halide lamp, comprises a hydrocarbon, such as a paraffin wax, a copolymer, such as poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate), and optionally a surfactant. The binder system is mixed with a ceramic powder and heated to above the melting point of the binder. The heated mixture is formed into a compact having the general shape of the finished ceramic body and then cooled or allowed to cool. The hydrocarbon and copolymer have overlapping freezing points so that when the shaped compact cools, crystalline segments of the copolymer (such as ethylene segments) co-crystallize with the hydrocarbon, while amorphous segments (such as vinyl acetate) form bridges between the crystalline regions. As a result, the cooled compact has improved green strength over conventional binder systems.

  • Patent number: 6582546
Abstract: Transparent sheets of acetate carrying a band of adhesive on the reverse side adjacent to one edge can be used for making notes on text and illustrations. Preferably provided in a tablet of plural, stacked sheets and most preferably provided in a kit form with erasable markers adapted for marking on acetate, the sheets may be applied to a whole page of text or to a drawing. The markings can interact with the text and drawings because the underlaying surface is visible through the sheets. Thus, the user may make annotations exactly where and how desired.

  • Patent number: 6582541
Abstract: In a green laminate body including a plurality of base green layers and a plurality of constraining green layers for forming a monolithic ceramic substrate by using a non-shrinking process, when the thicknesses of the base green layers differ from each other, a thicker base green layer shrinks largely during sintering, and hence, the resulting monolithic ceramic substrate may warp in some cases. In order to solve this problem, the constraining green layers, which are in contact with the main surfaces of the individual base green layers, have different thicknesses so that a relatively thicker constraining green layer is in contact with a relatively thicker base green layer, and a relatively thinner constraining green layer is in contact with a relatively thinner base green.
