  • Patent number: 6485591
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of laminating ceramic greenware sheets with electrodes embedded therein (25) which is formed on a support by pressure-adhering a ceramic greenware sheet with an electrode embedded therein onto a second ceramic greenware sheet or other electrodes (23), then peeling off the support alone and transferring the ceramic greenware sheet with the embedded electrodes onto the second ceramic greenware sheet or the other electrodes. This manufacturing method enables it to laminate ceramic greenware sheets each the thickness of which is as thin as 20 micrometers or less, while maintaining their mechanical strength and embedded electrodes in the ceramic greenware sheets, thereby enabling it to prevent a occurrence of surface irregularities due to the thickness of the electrodes even when laminating to a high degree.

  • Patent number: 6470943
Abstract: Methods and systems for making an absorbent pad for use in an absorbent article utilize a forming device for forming material into an absorbent core, a supply device for supplying a containment layer against the first surface of the absorbent core and spray apparatus for spraying fibers of molten resin onto the second surface of the absorbent core. The fibers form a stabilization layer on the absorbent core that increases the integrity of the absorbent core. The spray apparatus includes a nozzle having a resin aperture for exhausting resin therefrom and multiple gas apertures for exhausting gas therefrom to provide a random pattern to the fibers of molten resin as the fibers are sprayed onto the second surface. Resin can also be sprayed onto first and second portions of the containment layer extending outwardly from edges of the absorbent core so the containment layer and the stabilization layer encompass the absorbent core.

  • Patent number: 6471817
Abstract: A laser printable sheet with vehicular registration and permitting decals and/or stickers is produced in a manner that insures the sheet lays-flat, rather than being crooked, so that it does not cause significant jamming problems in laser printers. Adhesive-release material is spot coated on a web back surface, including a first patch, the back surface is imaged with static indicia, and a substantially transparent plastic pressure sensitive adhesive laminate is applied over the back surface, including over the adhesive release material patch and first static indicia. The face is die cut at the first patch within the parameter of the patch to form the first die cut portion, which is then sucked off the substrate to provide an open area with exposed transparent plastic and pressure sensitive adhesive, and then a piggy back decal is blown onto the open area. The decal is preferably a license plate decal having a reflective visible surface in vehicular registration and permitting indicia.

  • Patent number: 6468374
Abstract: The present invention describes an extrusion process for manufacturing a glass honeycomb structure having a variety of shapes and sizes depending on its ultimate application. Unlike prior art honeycomb structures made from ceramics, the inventive glass honeycomb can be readily viscously bent and/or redrawn. Furthermore, the inventive honeycomb structure is lightweight, yet able to support heavy loads on its end faces. Therefore, the inventive honeycomb can be used as a light-weight support for such objects as mirrors. These honeycombs can be used singularly or in aggregates to provide such support. Embodiments are described wherein the mass of the honeycomb is further reduced by removing select portions of the honeycomb without deleteriously impacting its ability for load bearing.

  • Patent number: 6464811
Abstract: Lamellar, fibre-reinforced plastic strips can be used to reinforce a linearly expanded or flat construction part having a support function against any bending stress to which it is exposed. The strips are usually applied to the construction from the outside, or from the inside in the case of hollow structures, and fixed by an adhesive. The lamellar strips are pretensed with a tensioning device, treated with adhesive in a pretensed state, and then moved to the area to be treated together with the tension device. The tension device is provisionally fixed to the construction with displaceable fixing devices and pressed against said construction. Thereafter the lamellar strips are pressed against the construction by means of an air bag or air hose until the adhesive has hardened.

  • Patent number: 6451150
Abstract: Mass production of integrated optical subsystems may be realized by aligning first and second plurality of dies. The aligned dies are then treated to secure them together. The secured dies are then separated to form a secured pair of dies containing at least one optical element, thus forming an integrated optical subsystem. A bonding material may be provided over at least part of the optical path of each first die, over an entire surface of the wafer or around the perimeter of each first die. Either one of the first or second dies may be provided on a wafer. Either die may contain active elements, e.g., a laser or a detector. The optical elements may be formed in the die or may be of a different material than that of the die.
