  • Patent number: 4411173
Abstract: The front end plate for the motor of a portable pneumatic tool has an integral annular portion extending forwardly of a bearing seat in the end plate. An internal ring gear is formed within the annular extending portion and engages planetary gearing carried by an output spindle. The planetary gearing engages a pinion gear on the motor shaft, and the shaft is journaled in a bearing retained in the bearing seat in the end plate. The annular extending portion of the end plate has an outer cylindrical surface for piloting the counterbored rear portion of a housing within which the output spindle is journaled. The end plate is alined circumferentially with the motor housing, and independently thereof, the end plate is alined circumferentially with the cylindrical liner of the motor. As a result, the motor liner is automatically alined with the motor housing during the assembly of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4409858
Abstract: A vehicle transmission with parallel input (30) output (19), and idler (35) shafts each provided with first (28,31,34) and second (29,32,33) gear wheels. The first gear wheels (28,31) on the input and output shafts are in constant mesh and the first gear wheel (34) on the idler shaft meshes with the input shaft first gear wheel (28) alone, while the second gear wheels (29,32) on the input and output shaft are in constant mesh and the second gear wheel (33) on the idler shaft meshes with the output shaft second gear wheel (32) alone. A synchromesh clutch unit (36) selectively connects the input shaft first and second gear wheels with the input shaft and a non-synchromesh clutch unit (37) selectively connects the output shaft first and second gear wheels with the output shaft to obtain a number of different output shaft ratios.

  • Patent number: 4406181
Abstract: An automatic transmission includes a gear transmission mechanism with several friction engaging mechanisms. Selective supply of actuating pressure to these mechanisms selectively provides different speed stages from the transmission, including a directly connected speed stage and an overdrive speed stage. A driver operated manual selector valve can be set to several forward ranges including a "D" range, and produces a lower range pressure when any forward range except for "D" range is selected thereon. A kickdown pressure is produced when the accelerator pedal of the vehicle is depressed beyond a predetermined amount. An electrically operated pressure control device produces a holddown pressure signal according to operating conditions of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4397201
Abstract: A hydrostatic-mechanical drive for a load, e.g. a self-propelled machine such as a concrete mixer comprising a hydrostatic motor which can be connected to the load via a mechanical transmission. According to the invention, the shaft of the hydrostatic motor extends into the control plate or cover thereof (through which hydraulic communication is made with the drum carrying the axial pistons of the motor) and is provided with an inductive sensor on this plate to form a pulse generator (with a metal gear on the shaft) whose output represents a parameter of rotation of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4397199
Abstract: Rack segments are formed with teeth to mesh with drive gears of a mining machine to propel it along a conveyor. The drive gears are spaced apart and mounted on a drive shaft with a sleeve member therebetween to engage the top surface of a rack segment. The rack segment has a rectangular body with arch-shaped upper and lower surfaces. Opposite end portions have a vertical hole to receive a support member which is anchored in place by a pin passed through an opening transversely thereto and arranged along a horizontal plane of symmetry. Attachments forming gear teeth project at uniformly-spaced intervals from opposite lateral sides of the rack body. The attachments have involute-like flanks extending upwardly and downwardly from the horizontal plane of symmetry such that a worn rack segment can be continually used by inverting its position 180.degree..

  • Patent number: 4394827
Abstract: A fluid pressure control system for controlling an automatic transmission which includes a gear transmission mechanism and several fluid pressure actuated friction engaging mechanisms, selective engagement of which provides various speed stages from the gear transmission mechanism. A line pressure valve produces a line pressure which increases from a base pressure by an amount proportional to engine load. A throttle pressure valve produces a throttle pressure which is proportional to engine load. A shift valve selectively switches supply of an actuating pressure to one of the friction engaging mechanisms via a passage, according to the operational condition of the vehicle. The actuating pressure is supplied by a fluid pressure control system which receives supply of line pressure and which outputs a pressure which, when engine load is medium, is approximately equal to line pressure, but which, when engine load is small or is large, is substantially lower than line pressure.

  • Patent number: 4395251
Abstract: A chain tensioning device comprises a pair of arms 2, 3 which are pivoted together and urged apart so that the arm 3 applies a tensioning force to a chain by means of a spring loaded cam block 5. A catch disc 9 and rod 8 arrangement is provided to prevent return movement of the spring loaded block and hence collapse of the arm 3 under load reversals of the chain.

  • Patent number: 4389909
Abstract: A differential gear mechanism of the limited slip type is provided. The mechanism includes a clutch pack (35) and a cam mechanism (41) which are able to retard differentiating action of the differential gear means (19,23,25). A flyweight mechanism (51) is operable to actuate the cam mechanism, and to engage the clutch pack. The cam member (43) includes a cam surface (47) having alternating rising surface portions (61) and falling surface portions (63). These surface portions include pad portions (71,73), such that engagement with the mating cam surface (45) is limited to the area of the pad portion, thus making the transmittal of camming forces to the clutch pack more consistent and predictable.

  • Patent number: 4387604
Abstract: A toy inertia motor for driving a rotatable power or drive shaft. The drive shaft is coupled, for example, to any suitable members or mechanisms such as the drive wheels on a toy car, or a windlass. The motor comprises a rotatable flywheel, and separate winding and driving gear trains for coupling the flywheel to the drive shaft. A gear of the winding and driving gear trains is movable, in response to rotation of the drive shaft, between a normal drive position in the driving gear train to a wind position in the winding gear train. A latch is responsive to such gear movement for releasably latching the gear in its wind position. When so latched, the flywheel inertia can be built up by rotating the flywheel. When the latch is released, the gear returns to its drive position and the flywheel inertia is transmitted via the driving gears to the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4379413
Abstract: A drive unit is disclosed having interlocking members for directly connecting angularly disposed drive and driven shafts. The interlocking members comprise conventional pinion mate and side gear blanks supported in a standard differential housing driven by a drive shaft through a ring and pinion gear set. Pinion mate gear blanks are connected by the usual cross shaft to the differential housing. Side gear blanks cooperate with the pinion mate gear blanks and are connected to the driven shaft. Integral locking surfaces provided on the mating gear blanks cooperate to prevent the side gear blanks from rotating relative to the differential housing so that a direct drive power path is established between the drive and driven shafts.
