Abstract: The directable exhaust for a wake surfing power boat permits directing exhaust out of either the port or starboard side of a boat opposite the wake wave on which a wake surfer is surfing to avoid exposure of the person to the exhaust fumes. Valves which direct the exhaust out of the side of the boat are linked such that the exhaust can be directed out of either the port or starboard side of the boat away from the wake surfer by a single control available to the boat operator.
Abstract: A convertible anchor capable of being converted between a first position usable on sandy bottom floors and a second position usable on debris laden bottom floors, such as reefs. The convertible anchor may include an elongated shank and one or more flukes rotatably coupled to the elongated shank. The convertible anchor may also include an engagement limiting device placing the convertible anchor in a first position in which the fluke is prevented from rotating relative to the elongated shank. The convertible anchor may also include a catch device so that the convertible anchor can grab a debris laden bottom when the convertible anchor is in the second position.
Abstract: A system for reducing skin friction drag includes a user-controlled drag reducing substance and components for introducing the substance at or near the surface of the object for which skin friction drag is desired. In a fluid injection system embodiment, a pressurized injectant source supplies an injectant, an injector device injects the injectant near the surface of the object for which drag reduction is desired, a hose or conduit directs flow of the pressurized fluid from the source to the injector device and a control device enables a user to control the flow.
Abstract: A float structure having a mainframe and pontoons is described. The mainframe includes floor support beams transversely attached to pontoon connector beams. The pontoon connector beams are operatively connected to the pontoons such that there are no weak points in the mainframe. A motor mount is removably mounted to the connector beams and is adjustable to accommodate various lengths of motor shafts.
Abstract: An improved canoe including a hull has sidewalls extending fore and aft and a gunwale on the sidewalls. The gunwale has longitudinal slot extending for a substantial portion of the entire hull. A canoe accessory has a thickened attachment portion for engagement in the slot to attach the accessory to the canoe. A method of canoeing includes inserting a thickened portion of a canoeing accessory into a slot at a canoe gunwale to retain the accessory in place and paddling the canoe on a body of water.

Abstract: The mast device for a submarine comprises a guiding means, a vertically traversable mast guided therein and information means which are provided at the mast upper end and which are in electrical interaction with the inside of the submarine for emitting and receiving information. The information means are arranged in a buoyant unit held on the mast upper end without connection to this. The buoyant unit is fastened to a flexible coupling means which may be let out and retracted and which is of the length essentially of the maximum desired observation depth of the submarine.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention relates to a method for making a boat. The boat includes a port side positioned opposite from a starboard side. The boat also includes a floor and stingers supports positioned within the hull. The method includes providing a insert having two spaced-apart elongated portions interconnected by at least two spaced-apart transverse portions that extend between the elongated portions. The elongated portions are sized and relatively positioned for one of the elongated portions to extend along the port side of the hull and the other of the elongated portions to extend along the starboard side of the hull. The method also includes positioning the insert in a chamber defined between a male mold piece and a female mold piece. The method further includes providing fibrous reinforcing material that surrounds the insert within the chamber.

Abstract: A retractable-airfoil vessel has surface-effect wings (1) that are hinged or otherwise attached extendedly to a vessel (3). The surface-effect wings are extendable to a use mode in proximity to a surface of water (5) at sides (2) of the vessel for surface-effect lift of the vessel at elevated speeds. At low speeds when pleasure cruising or fishing, when stopped for water activities or when adjusting to rough waters and storm conditions, the surface-effect wings can provide wide-area buoyance on water at sides of a center of gravity of the vessel. The best of all worlds, it can be made to ride-out a storm as safely and securely as an anchored buoy and yet have high-speed efficiency, low-speed pleasure cruising and stopping for swimming and marine exploration. Then for docking in vessel slips and for maneuvering in close proximity to docks and harbor structures, the surface-effect wings can be retracted onto the vessel in a non-use mode for non-interference storage and for docked-living shelter.
Abstract: A fin assembly for adjustably coupling a fin (2) to a board (16). The fin assembly includes a fin having a base (6), the base including a substantially semicircular portion (13) and a front tip (12). The fin assembly also includes a fin box (1) adapted to be attached to a board, the fin box having an opening (3) for receiving the base of the fin. A rear end of the opening has a substantially semicircular portion (5) for receiving the semicircular portion of the base. A front end of the opening has a plurality of rifts (4) for selectively receiving the front tip of the base. Changing the rift that the front tip is disposed in changes an angle of attack of the fin. The fin assembly also includes a fastening assembly (7, 8, 9, 10, and 11) for removably securing the fin to the fin box.
Abstract: A trimaran having a hull and outrigger pontoons on each side of the hull. The pontoon are laterally movable away and towards the hull. Each of the pontoons are secured to the hull by forward and aft link boxes. The link boxes are pivotally mounted to the port side and starboard side of the hull. Each of the link boxes are also pivotally secured to a pontoon. The forward and aft link boxes of each side are connected together by a linkage whereby the forward port side and starboard link boxes are arcuately rotated when the aft port side and starboard link boxes are arcuately rotated.
Abstract: After a wire rope sling is fabricated and the sleeve has been painted and dried, an adhesive type of tag containing all of the information required by ASME B30.9c is applied directly to the sleeve's surface. The sleeve and the tag will then be encased using a transparent casing, coating, or sealant. This will protect the tag from abrasion, the environment, and will ensure a permanent and legible tag.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method for improved stabilization of multiple layers of flexible foam material in personal flotation devices. The present invention includes front and back covered segments incorporating multiple layers of buoyant material connected together by fabric inserted into one or more slits formed through the layers. The ends of the fabric are preferably sewn together. In an alternative embodiment, the connected multiple layers of buoyant material are secured within the covered segments by affixing them within the covered segments. The present invention provides improved stabilization of multiple layers of flexible foam material when used in personal flotation devices to reduce curling and fanning issues and avoid bulk and weight while providing a cosmetically appealing flotation device.

Abstract: A pier system having tethered deck sections that are selectively separable from supporting pile bents to prevent damage to the pier system during storm events. The pier system includes a plurality of deck sections supported above water by pile bents and engaged therewith in normal use mode by selective attachment mechanisms. In deployment mode, the attachment mechanisms are disengaged to allow the deck sections to be removed from the pile support systems by storm action. The tethers allow the decking sections to float free but remain close to the pile bents. The system may be reassembled into normal use mode following the storm event.

Abstract: In a method of and apparatus for offshore mooring, a clamping apparatus includes a clamping mechanism and a pulley. A mooring line connected to an anchor or a pendant line connected to a vessel to be moored extends through the clamping mechanism and around the pulley of the clamping apparatus. The distal end of the line extending through the clamping apparatus is connected to an anchor handling vessel. The anchor handling vessel is employed to apply a predetermined tension to the pendant line and the preset mooring line. A remote operated vehicle is then employed to actuate the clamping apparatus and to disengage the anchor handling vessel.

Abstract: A mooring arrangement between a floating storage body spread moored in deep water and a shuttle tanker, the arrangement including a single point buoyant member that is adapted for mooring a shuttle tanker in offloading position relative to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) with a link between the floating storage body and the single point buoyant member. One embodiment (100) of the invention employs a submerged yoke (30), having one end (31) rotatably coupled to a FPSO (10) and a second end (32), supported by a buoy. A mooring hawser (28) extends from the buoy to the shuttle tanker and product hoses connect the shuttle tanker with the FPSO and extend along the submerged yoke. In another embodiment, the mooring buoy is stationed by a hold-back mooring system (303–304) and the FPSO or the tanker or both is provide with traction device (308) to move the tanker into loading position with respect to the FPSO.
