  • Patent number: 4573370
Abstract: A gear reversal mechanism for a hand held power tool is selectively operative to reverse the output of a unidirectional motor and provides a direct drive forward mode and an indirect drive reverse mode, with the selection therebetween being implemented by a manual shift collar operating a cam mechanism selectively to reorient the gear train and consequent direction of motor output. The shift collar is temporarily locked to the gear housing during tool operation by using the operative air pressure of the tool to expand a locking mechanism into locking engagement with such shift collar. With or without the locking mechanism, an exhaust shutoff shift interlock may be provided to permit exhaust air to exit the housing when the shift collar is in either its forward or reverse operating positions or alternatively to close the housing exhaust ports to block exhaust air flow to preclude motor operation when the shift collar is between its operating positions.

  • Patent number: 4522086
Abstract: The disclosed control system for a CVT controls the line pressure which is applied to the secondary pulley to maintain adequate belt tension, at a level significantly lower than previously was produced. An improved throttle valve is provided, and used in this throttle-sensitive regulation of line pressure. An improved ratio valve is provided, which combines spring and fluid forces in a manner to produce the ratio-indicating fluid signal, with negligible loading on the movable sheave where the ratio change is sensed. In the ratio-changing portion of the system, the combination of a timing valve and accumulator valve cooperate in demand type downshifts to provide adequate time for oil flow into the secondary pulley chamber as the primary pulley chamber is exhausted, to keep adequate belt tension during such a downshift.

  • Patent number: 4499791
Abstract: A longitudinally mounted drive train for an automotive vehicle usable with either a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. A housing encloses a clutch in the manual drive train or a torque converter in the automatic drive train. The housing is fastened, in the manual drive train, directly onto the housing of the manual transmission or, in the automatic drive train, by means of a bearing support housing to the housing of the automatic transmission. The housing can be formed of two parts. In both drive trains a shaft having a differential bevel pinion can be provided to couple the transmission to a differential to permit front wheel drive or four wheel drive. The use of common components for the normal drive train and for the automatic drive train results in greatly reduced production costs and lower parts inventory.

  • Patent number: 4493228
Abstract: A vehicular control system for automatically shifting a countershaft transmission wherein the power control means is controlled in accordance with a manually operated accelerator pedal and shift requirements. During non-shift modes of operation, the power control means is adjusted in accordance with the manually operated accelerator pedal. During a shifting mode of operation, the power control means is adjusted in accordance with the shift requirements of the transmission. Once a desired gear ratio is engaged in the transmission, the power control setting is returned to correspond with the accelerator pedal setting at a rate dependent upon their difference. Means are also provided for modifying the return rate if the accelerator pedal setting is abruptly adjusted during the return.

  • Patent number: 4474081
Abstract: In an altimetric compensation apparatus and method for a speed change pattern of an automatic transmission, first to third memory locations corresponding respectively to idling, low load and highload conditions of an engine are provided. A feedback air fuel ratio is calculated on the basis of feedback signals from an air fuel ratio sensor. A value in the memory corresponding to the detected running condition of the engine is compensated on the basis of deviation of the feedback air fuel ratio from the base air fuel ratio. When the values in at least two memory locations deviate by at least a predetermined value from the base value, the altimetric compensation value is adjusted and the speed change pattern is altered on the basis of the altimetric compensation value thus obtained.
