    Abstract: A method and relay node (RN) in a wireless communications network for controlling downlink transmissions to User Equipments (UEs) being served by the RN. An RN transceiver circuit requests each UE to measure and report a Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) and a UE total downlink interference. An RN receiver circuit receives and forwards the reported RSRP and UE total downlink interference for each UE. An RN processing and control circuit measures an RN total downlink interference; determines which UEs are closely located to the RN based on the reported RSRP of each UE; creates a UE-list with UEs determined to be closely located to the RN and which experience UE total downlink interference similar to the measured RN total downlink interference; determines whether the measured RN total downlink interference exceeds an RN interference threshold; and if so, controls the downlink transmissions to the UEs in the created UE-list.

    Abstract: A method for determining whether a radio unit in a shared cell configuration is hearable by a user equipment is provided. Transmission of a probe message to the user equipment by the radio unit is caused. The probe message invokes a probe response from the user equipment if the radio unit is hearable by the user equipment on a downlink channel. The radio unit is hearable by the user equipment if the downlink channel performance between the radio unit and the user equipment meets a predetermined signal criteria. An uplink channel associated with the user equipment is monitored for the probe response from the user equipment after transmission of the probe message. Hearability data associated with the user equipment is determined based on the monitored uplink channel. The hearability data indicates whether the radio unit is hearable by the user equipment the downlink channel.

Future enhanced uplink traffic is scheduled in dependence of the determined load headroom. A degree of underutilization of enhanced uplink traffic grants in the cell is established. The scheduling comprises overbooking of enhanced uplink traffic in dependence on the established underutilization degree. A network node comprises corresponding functionalities.

    Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) apparatus or system includes a call control agent that is configured and arranged to perform a number of functions. The call control agent is configured to receive a connection request for a VoIP call and then accesses a list of media-relay servers (MRSs) that are located at geographically disparate locations relative to one another. The call control agent can execute a selection algorithm that processes variables for the MRSs in the list. In response to the selection algorithm, the call control agent is configured to select a particular MRS from the list. In response to the selection, the call control agent can then direct an endpoint to route audio media for the VoIP call through the particular MRS. The call control agent also is configured to maintain a call state for the VoIP call while the voice media is routed through the particular MRS.

The data network contains a number of data plane nodes carrying user traffic and a control node managing the data plane nodes. The method starts with receiving a packet at a data plane node. The data plane node determines that it needs help from the control node for processing the received packet. It then quantizes a congestion level at the data plane node and encoding the quantized congestion level in the packet, where a number of bits in the packet indicates the quantized congestion level. It sends a portion of the packet from the data plane node to the control node, where the portion of the packet includes the number of bits encoding the quantized congestion level.
