Abstract: A joined body includes: a thin plate including through holes; first members each including: a base portion and a protruding portion inserted into one of the through holes; and a second member placed oppositely to the base portion via the thin plate and made of a material that is of a same kind as a material of the first members. The thin plate is made of a material having a specific gravity smaller than the materials of the first and the second members. The second member and an end portion of the protruding portion are connected together by melt-solidification. A post-joining hardness difference in a range of 30% along a direction orthogonal to a joint interface between the second member and the protruding portion, the range being centered on the joint interface, is equal to or less than 90% of a pre-joining hardness difference.
Abstract: An aluminum alloy brazing sheet used for brazing of an aluminum material in an inert gas atmosphere or in vacuum is formed of a two-layer material in which a brazing material and a core material are stacked in this order. The core material is formed of an aluminum alloy and has a grain size of 20 to 300 ?m, and the aluminum alloy contains Mn of 0.50 to 2.00 mass %, Mg of 0.40 to 2.00 mass %, Si of 1.50 mass % or less, and Fe of 1.00 mass % or less, with the balance being aluminum and inevitable impurities. The brazing material is formed of an aluminum alloy containing Si of 4.00 to 13.00 mass % with the balance being aluminum and inevitable impurities, and, in a drop-type fluidity test, a ratio ? (?=Ka/Kb) of a fluid coefficient Ka is 0.50 or more.

Abstract: An aluminum alloy brazing sheet has a 3XXX, 1XXX or 6XXX core, an interliner and a 4XXX brazing layer without added Mg. The interliner has Bi and Mg, the magnesium migrating to the surface of the brazing sheet during brazing and reducing the aluminum oxide to facilitate brazing without flux in a controlled inert atmosphere with reduced oxygen.

Abstract: Methods for forming a coated component, along with the resulting coated components, are provided. The method may include forming a silicon-based bond coating on a surface of a substrate and forming a barrier coating on the silicon-based bond coating. The silicon-based bond coating comprises columnar grains of crystalline silicon. Chemical vapor depositing (CVD) may be used to form the silicon-based bond coating through CVD of a silicon-containing precursor at a deposition temperature and deposition pressure that causes crystallization of the silicon material during the deposition of the silicon-based bond coating. The silicon-containing precursor may be silane, monochlorosilane, dichlorosilane, and/or trichlorosilane.

Abstract: A bearing including a backing formed of a steel material, a lining formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and a diffusion barrier layer disposed between the backing and the lining is provided. The diffusion barrier layer is formed of nickel or a nickel alloy and has a thickness ranging from 1 micron to 100 microns. The bearing is typically formed by cladding the lining or plating the steel backing with the diffusion barrier layer, bonding the lining and the backing with the diffusion barrier layer between, heating to a temperature of at least 400° C., and forming the bearing into a shape after or before the heating step.

Abstract: Articles containing metal, hard metal, cermet or ceramic and coated with a hard material, and a method for producing same. Abstract: A flat steel product which, following a 5% biaxial deformation, exhibits, on one surface, a Wsa(1-5) value of <0.35 ?m, a planar anisotropy ?r of ?0.5 to +0.5 and, from the surface to a depth of <200 ?m, and a nanohardness of >0.1 to <3.0 GPa. Also, a method of making the product where a slab including (in wt. %) 0.0003-0.050% C, 0.0001-0.20% Si, 0.01-1.5% Mn, 0.001-0.10% P, 0.0005-0.030% S, 0.001-0.12% AI, and 0.0001-0.01% N, the remainder Fe and impurities is heated to 1200-1270° C., rough-rolled with a reduction of 80-90%, and finish-hot-rolled at 850-950° C. with a reduction of 85-95%, for a total deformation of 95-99.5%. The reduction in the last hot roll pass is 1-25%, and the product is cooled at 4-30 K/s to a coiling temperature of 620-780° C. Following pickling, the product is cold-rolled with a total degree of deformation of 70-90% and recrystallization annealed at 650-900° C.

The metal matrix nanocomposite may have a cast microstructure.
