  • Patent number: 6349929
Abstract: The present invention describes a workholding apparatus for holding workpieces that are to undergo various machining processes. The workholder apparatus is particularly suitable for numerically controlled machining applications. The workholder consists of a main body having a generally flat work surface and two or more clamping assemblies slidably located beneath the work surface. The invention includes a means for accurately and repeatably clamping a workpiece to the work surface, so that a part may be removed at an intermediate stage for examination or other processing, and returned to the workholder in the same location. A major advantage of the present invention is the clamping is accomplished without producing undesirable stresses in the workpiece, and all sides of the workpiece can be exposed for machining without changing the attachment of the workpiece in the workholder. A modular and extensible embodiment of the invention is also described.

  • Patent number: 6347974
Abstract: A controller sets polishing parameters and automatically supplies materials needed for polishing to a polishing unit in accordance with a type of connector to be polished. The controller may also control the duration and pressure applied during polishing. Washing and any repeating of polishing may also be automated. Once polishing is complete, the connector may be inspected to determine if it has been satisfactorily polished. If not, the polishing parameters may be altered and the connector is repolished and reinspected.

  • Patent number: 6347792
Abstract: A mechanic's bench vise which is easy to use and increases the maximum level of clamping force on a workpiece in a pair of jaws of the vise. Another benefit is that it allows a vise to be used performing operations such as installing bushings, die punching holes, and setting rivets. One feature of the invention is that it measures the amount of torque which is applied to the torque arm. The invention broadly comprises a vise having at least one long slender torque arm for opening and closing a pair of jaws of a vise and a ratchet for opening and closing a pair of jaws of the vise. In a first aspect of the invention, the torque arm is not intended to be removed from the vise during normal service. In a second aspect, the length of the torque arm is adjustable. In a third aspect, the torque is removable for shipping and storage and to allow the use of different style and length torque arms.

  • Patent number: 6341769
Abstract: A non-contact pick-up device is disclosed. The non-contact pick-up device mainly includes a disk, and a plurality of air nozzles on the disk. Each nozzle has an air channel; and an upper end of the channel is tilt outwards. Therefore, as a disc-shaped article is placed on the disk; air jets out from the nozzles, due to Bernoulli principle, pressure difference is formed on the disc-shaped article. Thus, due to the action of atmosphere pressure, the disc-shaped article will be clamped. The pick-up device may be used in semiconductor manufacturing process for clamping a wafer.

  • Patent number: 6338470
Abstract: A lifting rack for elevating motorcycles or other two-wheeled vehicles for ease of maintenance. The rack comprises a channel with a base plate that may be laid flat on a ground or floor surface, and upstanding side walls that provide lateral stability for a two-wheeled vehicle as the vehicle wheels are positioned on the base plate. The rack also comprises ground or floor surface engaging rails. A linkage mechanism connects the rails to the channel. A hydraulic motor, anchored on the rails, applies a lifting force to the linkage elements, thereby creating a vertical lift force component, the base plate supporting the vehicle wheels as the vehicle lifted. One end of the channel may be separated from the main portion of the channel and separately articulated on the rails, whereby one vehicle wheel may overhang the end of main channel portion.

  • Patent number: 6336264
Abstract: A connection bolt arrangement typically used for connecting two structural members to each other, for example in aircraft construction, includes a conically tapered connection bolt that is force-locked or frictionally engaged in an expansion sleeve so as to cause a radial outward expansion of the sleeve and thereby tightly hold the structural components. An apparatus for releasing such a connection bolt arrangement includes two levers that are pivotably connected to each other, a stamping actuator arranged between respective first ends of the two levers, a pulling extraction device mounted at the second end of the first lever, and a pushing block mounted at the second end of the second lever. The actuating force applied by the actuator is transmitted through the levers and applied to the connection bolt and to the expansion sleeve in opposite directions so as to tend to push the bolt out of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6334809
Abstract: For users of chain saws it is known that the chain saw teeth should rather often be sharpened by filing in order to keep them well cutting. Traditionally, such a sharpening is effected by means of a straight filing rod moved in a reciprocal manner, but according to the invention it is realized that it is better to arrange the rod as a rotary circular or screw shaped formation, whereby the teeth can be worked in a simplified manner.

  • Patent number: 6328295
Abstract: First and second handles of a tool are spring biased to pivot into a closed position in which mounting end portions of the handles abut each other. A band has a first end attached to the mounting end portion of the first handle and extends therefrom to form a loop. The opposite end of the band is slidably received through passages through the mounting end portions of the handles. A series of openings through the band correspond to various predetermined use diameters. A pin extending into the passage in the second handle engages one of the openings corresponding to a selected use diameter. The gripping end portions of the handles opposite the mounting end portions are squeezed together to increase the effective diameter of the band loop and allow the loop to be placed around parts to be aligned.
