  • Patent number: 6431522
Abstract: A base for a hydraulic spreading ram for rescue work with crushed or collapsed motor vehicle bodies wherein the body must be spread to extricate a trapped victim. The base is U-shaped, having parallel upper and lower arms, and a vertical connecting arm spanning and connecting the upper and lower arms. A stationary jaw is fixed to the lower arm. A movable jaw is constrained to slide along the vertical connecting arm by guide plates fixed to the movable jaw and which ride along grooves formed in the vertical connecting arm. The upper arm is aligned with the lower arm, and has a threaded opening for receiving a correspondingly threaded hydraulic ram in an orientation such that the ram forces the movable jaw downwardly towards the stationary jaw. The movable jaw has two receptacles each disposed to receive a ram which is employed to spread the vehicle body. The two receptacles provide a selection of positions for the ram which spreads the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 6427980
Abstract: A cable guide is provided for guiding lines or cables in a guide channel, the guide preferably having a continuous, elongated slide strip, which can be disposed in a curved orientation to form opposite upper and lower strands and a deflection zone between them. The cable guide has a plurality of guide links that can pivot relative to one another and are preferably arranged on the side of the slide strip facing away from the opposite strand and mounted on the slide strip in detachable fashion. In order to improve a generic cable guide such that it has a longer service life and less noise emission, elements are provided, in addition to any existing slide strip, that absorb the tensile forces acting in the longitudinal direction of the cable guide when it is in essentially extended position. The tensile force-absorbing elements are preferably designed as positive locking elements, e.g., in the form of projections protruding into the pivoting plane and corresponding recesses arranged on adjacent guide links.

  • Patent number: 6427301
Abstract: The piston ring compressor tool system comprises a compression skirt. The skirt has an interior surface and an exterior surface. It also has an upper edge and a lower edge. The tool system has a hollow, generally tapered, cylindrical tubular form and is further configured in a shape of an upper frustroconical funnel. The funnel forms a planar inlet within the interior of the upper edge. The funnel further forms a lower cylindrically shaped outlet within the interior of the lower edge. The outlet is parallel to the plane of the inlet and is for discharging the piston and ring assembly into a bore. The compression skirt has a generally outwardly curved upper horizontal portion. The lower horizontal portion is generally plumb to the plane of the opening of the lower edge. The middle horizontal area is a transition area between the radian outward curve of the upper horizontal portion and the generally plumb surface of the lower horizontal portion.

  • Patent number: 6422551
Abstract: A disposable cutting board is disclosed having a tough plastic upper sheet and a lower base made of papier-mâché. In use, when the upper sheet is pierced, liquid from the food being cut thereon passes through such cuts in the plastic sheet to the base, causing the papier-mâché base to disintegrate and rendering the cutting board unusable. The user is thus encouraged to dispose of the cutting board.

  • Patent number: 6422549
Abstract: A clamping apparatus includes a housing and a pivot pin mounted for pivoting movement about an axis of rotation with respect to the housing. A clamp member is connected to the pivot pin and is moveable between a clamped position and a released position in response to rotation of the pivot pin. The pivot pin has an arm extending radially outwardly from the axis of rotation. A drive member is mounted for linear reciprocal movement along a fixed path with respect to the housing, and a linkage connects the drive member to the arm of the pivot pin for converting reciprocal movement of the drive member into pivoting movement of the pivot pin. An electric motor is connected to an output shaft with an axis of rotation, and an adjustable converting mechanism connects the drive member to the electric motor for adjustably converting the rotary motion driving force into a linear reciprocal harmonic motion of the drive member.

  • Patent number: 6415488
Abstract: A ring member and ring members made of metal are tightened and installed to the outer circumferential surface of a body made of a resin material. Accordingly, the body is prevented from outward deformation. When a tube joint is used in a high temperature atmosphere, even if any force acts on a fluid tube in the direction to cause detachment from the tube joint due to any external force or the pressure fluid flowing through the inside of the tube joint, then the fluid tube and a connecting member inserted into the body are reliably prevented from disengagement.

  • Patent number: 6412159
Abstract: A border retainer for retaining a decorative wall border segment on a wall after the border segment is pasted on the wall, to prevent the applied border segment from inadvertently curling up and detaching from the wall during the border-hanging operation when it is necessary to temporarily release the border segment before the border application paste dries. The border retainer is characterized by a retainer body typically fitted with a handle. A pair of wall inertion spikes extends from fixed or removable attachment to the retainer body for insertion in the wall and removably attaching the retainer body to the wall, and a retainer flange is provided on the retainer body. After the border segment is applied to the wall typically begin at one end and progressing to the opposite, extending end of the border segment, the extending end portion of the border segment initially remains unpasted to the wall and is retained by the retainer flange of the retainer body.

  • Patent number: 6409161
Abstract: The housing of a two station machining device has thereon a stationary jaw and two movable jaws reciprocable between open and closed positions relative to the stationary jaw by a pair of spaced slides that are reciprocable in a recess in the housing beneath the work surface. A piston in the recess has one end thereof secured to one of the slides and has its other end slidable sealingly in an axial bore and counterbore in the other slide. Normally the slides and the piston are retained resiliently in first limit positions in which the movable jaws are disposed in their open positions. Hydraulic fluid under pressure is supplied to the bore in the other slide beneath the head of the piston initially to move the piston and the one slide into second limit positions in which the jaw connected to the one slide is moved to its closed position, and then to move the other slide to a second limit position and its associated jaw to be moved to its closed position.

  • Patent number: 6398190
Abstract: A cable assembly includes a cable member and an outer jacket member disposed about the fiber optic cable member in slidable relation. In a preferred embodiment, the outer jacket member is a woven article, made from low friction, synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon, Teflon, PEEK, or polyvinylidene fluoride. The outer jacket member serves as a sleeve that extends at least the same length as the cable member. In use, the outer jacket carrying the cable member may be attached at one end to a pull cord or tape that extends through the length of a conduit. A pulling force is exerted on the pull cord at a remote end of the conduit, causing the outer jacket member and cable member to be drawn through the conduit. The outer jacket bears most of the force of the pulling action, and the only force exerted directly on the fragile cable member is that of friction between the jacket and the cable.

  • Patent number: 6394440
Abstract: A platform is held atop a vertically moveable dual position leveling base by three draw screws, three push screws, and three spring-loaded pins. The leveling base is configured to secure and orient the platform such that an upper surface of the platform is substantially horizontal with allowance for adjustments in each of two positions. The platform is pushed upwardly relative to the base by the spring-loaded pins. The orientation of the platform in one position is adjusted by the three draw screws, which pull the platform down against the upward force of the spring-loaded pins. The base also has an upper position in which the platform is pressed into sealing engagement with a lower mating surface of a chamber. Three adjustable push screws provide the desired platform orientation by limiting the movement of the platform towards the base.
