  • Patent number: 6598855
Abstract: A lift apparatus includes a base frame having a pair of ground engaging caster assemblies and an upwardly extending center post, and a pair of folding legs each having an inner end pivotally connected to the base frame and an outer end with a roller attached thereto, the casters and the rollers permitting the lift apparatus to roll across the ground surface. A parallelogram linkage includes a portion of the center post and is attached to vehicle support arms. An actuator is connected between the linkage and the base frame. A pumping handle and a power unit are connected to the actuator for selectively activating the actuator to selectively raise and lower the vehicle support arms between a lowered position for engaging and disengaging from a vehicle and a fully raised position a predetermined distance above the ground on which the base frame rests. The legs and the support arms can be moved to a compact storage position when not in use.

  • Patent number: 6584662
Abstract: A tool for extracting a glow plug includes an externally threaded shaft, an internally threaded sleeve that engages the externally threaded shaft, and a fixed cavity formed in one end of the externally threaded shaft. The cavity has a side entry to permit the insertion of the glow plug into the cavity in a direction normal to the shaft, and a pair of opposing shoulders integrally formed in opposing sidewalls of the cavity to engage the glow plug. The sleeve threads down the shaft until it contacts the engine block. Rotating the sleeve exerts a pulling force on the shaft, which is transferred to the inserted glow plug by the opposing shoulders in the cavity. This pulls both the shaft and the inserted glow plug away from the engine block.

  • Patent number: 6572081
Abstract: Guide tubes are arranged in a loose bundle and are fed into an existing tubular conduit or protective duct by a powered tractor and are pulled through the duct by the volumetric flow of compressed air which is introduced into the inlet end of the duct. The guide tubes are pressurized and closed at their leading end and trailing end. The existing duct is open at both ends. When the filling degree of the guide tube bundle (sum of guide tube cross-sectional areas compared to that of channelization duct) is provided in the range of from about 30% to about 60%, blowing/pushing installation of the guide tube bundle is substantially trouble free, and the bundle of guide tubes can be installed in a flexible and efficient manner over relatively greater distances.

  • Patent number: 6565068
Abstract: The specification describes economical lifting devices. A consumer jack comprising a rectangular base; a pair of connecting arms that are pivotally attached to the front end of the base, and a pair of lift arms that are attached to the connecting arms and attached at the rearward ends thereof to a sliding block. A screw-threaded actuator shaft is engaged with the sliding block to raise and lower a lifting pad attached to the forward ends of the lift arms of the device. The components are stamped from steel sheet and plate, and folded into the desired configuration, and assembled without the need for machining or welding. An economical power unit, for use with an economical jack stand and also for use with a lift bridge, comprises an adaptation of the consumer jack. The power unit does not use the lifting pad, but rather utilizes a pair of separated leveling pads pivotally attached to the forward ends of the lift arm for engagement with a lift collar of the jack stand.

  • Patent number: 6560836
Abstract: The hand tool for extracting bolts is a specialized marine oriented bolt extractor for use in extracting what are commonly called “Body Bound Bolts” from motor vessel shaft couplings. The body of the bolt extractor would be made of heavy duty steel and comprises a stationary flange and a moving flange. Located on the front side of the stationary flange are two cylindrical bolt housings for the bound bolts and two cylindrical extractor rod housings. The extractor rod housings pass through both flanges and house the 180 degree hook shaped extractor rods. One end of the extractor rods is secured to the moving flange with a washer and a nut, and the other end is placed against the bound bolts. A jack bolt passes through the moving flange such that the end of it is placed against the stationary flange. As the jack bolt is tightened, the moving flange moves away from the stationary flange and the extractor rods apply pressure to the bound bolts. This process is continued until the bolts are freed.

  • Patent number: 6557841
Abstract: A rotary clamp having a linkage assembly that provides an over-center condition for providing high actuation and clamping forces without excessively wearing the components of the linkage assembly. The linkage assembly is connected to a linear actuator for converting linear actuator motion into rotary clamp motion between a clamped position and an unclamped position. The linkage assembly provides a first link having an aperture for receiving a pin and a roller wherein the roller is coaxially connected o the pin. The second link is pivotally connected to the first link, and the third link is pivotally connected to the second link. The roller of the first link rollably engages a surface on the third link when moving in and out of the clamped position. A beam-like structure connected to the housing provides a wear surface wherein the pin engages the wear surface in response to the roller engaging the third link to prohibit the first link from reaching an over-center position.
