  • Patent number: 4961808
Abstract: An automatic laminator for laminating film on a board includes a control unit, input and output roller tables, and a control cabinet. The control unit includes a tacking system, film supply rolls, takeup rolls, lamination rolls, a cutting system and a vacuum system. The control unit features holding the board stationary between the completion of the tacking operation and the beginning of the lamination operation and the starting the lamination at substantially the same position where the tacking has been effected, thus improving the efficiency of operation and enabling a reduction in the time, pressure, and temperature required for the successful performance of tacking. This together with a simple and effective cutting system involving a cutting blade that moves only a few millimeters and cuts the film "on the fly" enables an increase in the rate at which the boards may be laminated. Single side lamination of very thin boards is also made possible.

  • Patent number: 4957672
Abstract: A sealing gasket of foamed plastic is formed at the edge of a filter element of reticulated foam by placing the filter element on a surface adjacent to an open receptacle contoured as a mold for the desired shape of the gasket, filling the receptacle with a foam-forming liquid and avoiding contact between the liquid and the filter element until the liquid begins to froth. The liquid is then permitted to froth and overflow the receptacle on the side facing the filter element. As the froth contacts the filter element and proceeds to cure, it bonds to the edge of the elements without substantially penetrating its open pore network. The result upon curing is a gasket along the edge of a filter element fully bonded thereto without gaps or bypass, yet leaving substantially all of the surface area of the filter element exposed for use as a filter.

  • Patent number: 4954208
Abstract: There is disclosed a hand-held labeler which uses labels releasably adhered to a carrier web. The labeler has a body with a pair of identical body sections. The body mounts first, second and third feed rolls. The first and third feed rolls project beyond the body and cooperate respectively with the second feed roll. The body has a delaminator and a guideway for the carrier web. The carrier web can be threaded through the guideway and about the delaminator in either direction. In either event, the first, second and third feed rolls cooperate with the carrier web to advance it and effect label delamination. Depending on the direction of threading, either the first or the third feed roll is used to advance the carrier web by rolling that feed roll along the surface to be labeled. A label roll is held captive in a holder having two identical body sections. In an alternative embodiment, a label strip winding feature enables a strip of labels to be wound into a roll for subsequent use in the labeler.

  • Patent number: 4954309
Abstract: A polymeric casing with a textured (matte-finish) surface is manufactured by dipping a form having external contours conforming to the desired shape of the casing in a solution of a polymer dissolved in one liquid, withdrawing the form from the solution to retain the solution as a film over the form's outer surface, applying a second liquid over the surface of the film, the second liquid being one which is miscible with the first and in which the polymer is insoluble, then solidifying the polymer into a solid film, preferably by solvent evaporation. Application of the second liquid prior to complete drying of the polymer film causes the resulting film to have a matte finish, which has a lubricous effect without the need for added lubricant powders or liquids, particularly when combined with a mandrel which imparts a similar surface finish to the interior of the film.

  • Patent number: 4952262
Abstract: A method of hose construction and product formed thereby consisting of an extruded thermoplastic core tube having ferrometallic wire reinforcement windings thereon which are closely wound and providing minute spaces between the wires. The reinforced core tube structure is elevated in temperature by an induction heater which concentrates heating in the wire reinforcement and transfers heat from the wire by conduction to the outer periphery of the core tube. Supplemental conventional heaters may be used in conjunction therewith to achieve substantial temperature elevation of the wire reinforcement. Thereafter a thermoplastic cover is pressure extruded over the heated wire reinforcement and forced through the minute spaces in the reinforcement into engagement with the core tube periphery. Cool-down establishes a bond between cover, wires and core tube and a mechanically locked, integral composite hose structure.
