  • Patent number: 6155514
Abstract: A system for the automatic and continuous loading of composite tape into a tape-laying machine is disclosed. The system provides composite tape from a plurality of cassettes which are held in the magazine of a tape loading system. The tape loading system has a tape drive which feeds tape from a cassette in an active position to the tape-laying system in controlled amounts. The tape loading system also has a cassette transfer system which pushes a full cassette from a standby position into the active position when the cassette in the active position exhausts its supply of tape.

  • Patent number: 5002239
Abstract: A locking/unlocking means for cassettes, in particular those having swivel cover flaps, consists partially or completely of elastically deformable material and is pivotably mounted at two or more points. In the rest position of the locking/unlocking means, advantageously a swivel plate, an essentially tension-free arrangement is obtained by means of a supporting extension above the bearing axis, by actuation from outside, the said arrangement being converted in the operating state, without further spring elements, into a state of tension and into a position in which the supporting extension rests against the inside of an outer cassette wall and a reaction force corresponding to the actuating force is generated without any additional spring. Such a locking/unlocking means is suitable for cassettes of all types.

  • Patent number: 4919356
Abstract: A videotape tape guide for guiding videotape in a videocassette. The videotape tape guide is comprised of an elongated cylinder having first and second open ends. A groove extends longitudinally from the first open end of the elongated cylinder to the second open end of the cylinder. The longitudinally extending groove allows the material required to form the tape guide to be reduced, thereby reducing the cost of the tape guide. Further, the groove allows firm seating in the videocassette to prevent rotation of the tape guide when positioned therein.

  • Patent number: 4899950
Abstract: In order to prevent a tension control pad from being excited to the point of undergoing resonance, an arrangement modifies the normal resonance frequency of the pad upon a given amount of tension being developed in the tape against which the pad is applied. In the disclosed embodiment, the provision takes the form of a projection which engages a resilient leaf spring-like member upon a predetermined amount of flexure occuring in a manner which stiffens the arrangement and elevates its resonance frequency.

  • Patent number: 4895316
Abstract: A reel is formed of a plastic molded hub and side, disk-like flanges. The hub is made of thin-wall, cylindrical rings that are arranged end-to-end, and the flanges are made of two or more separate radial sections having radially oriented, overlapped edges that fasten together. Removable mechanical fasteners extend through passageways formed in the hub rings and through the flanges for fastening them together. The width of the reel may be varied by changing the number of rings. The diameters of the flanges may be varied by blocking off the outer portions of the mold in which the flask sections are molded to remove selected amounts of the peripheral portions of the sections for reducing the flange diameter. The hub rings and flange sections are interchangeable with like rings and sections for repair or reduced inventory purposes.
