Patent number: 4858848Abstract: A magnetic tape cassette of very small type having a front lid pivotably secured to the cassette housing so as to open or close a front opening portion, and a guide portion arranged on the front wall of the lid at an asymmetrical position so as to extend in the longitudinal direction. Thus, when a number of tape cassettes are accommodated within a cassette magazine, the guide portions function as a guide so that all the tape cassettes with tracks A and B aligned in the same direction can be accommodated within the cassette magazine. Also, the tape cassette of the invention can be positively loaded on a recording and/or reproducing apparatus from a desired surface side. Further, since the guide portion is formed on the lid, mechanical strength of the cassette housing can be prevented from being decreased and the indication label attaching area on the top wall of the cassette housing is prevented from being restricted.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1988Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Takashi Katoku, Masato Tanaka

Patent number: 4858844Abstract: In a method for manufacturing rolls of bags, a web having transverse lines of perforation is wound by means of a winding device. A leading end of the web is first conducted into the winding device which is activated for the winding operation. When a predetermined web length has been sensed, a clamping device clamps the web which is immediately torn off, and a new leading web end is gripped after a certain time delay by means of a gripping device. The finished roll of bags is thereafter released from the winding device which is reset for a new winding operation. Finally, the gripping device is moved past the winding device so that this can catch the web and commence a new winding cycle.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1987Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Fas Converting Machinery AktiebolagInventor: Jan N. Patent number: 4856690Abstract: In printing machines, it is often necessary to move materials at two different speeds, for example, bulk movement from one station to another, and precise movement to effect registration for printing. Disclosed herein is apparatus for transmitting power to a drum from two motors via a single output shaft. The apparatus includes a shaft having a coupling disc at one end which can move axially under the control of an actuator either to engage a flywheel driven by a high speed motor or a drive ring driven by a stepper motor via a gear. The other end of the shaft has a gear which transmits the motor drive to the drum via a gear attached to the drum shaft.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1987Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Inventor: Richard C. Patent number: 4856724Abstract: A dispenser for rolls of flexible sheet material wound on cores is disclosed. The dispenser holds multiple rolls and includes guide tracks for guiding the rolls through the dispenser. A holding lever pivotably connected to each side of the dispenser selectively holds the rolls in position in the dispenser and has its pivoting motion controlled by a sensing plate which contacts a lower dispensing roll to sense when the sheet material is substantially depleted. The lower dispensing roll is always held out of contact with rolls of a dispensing mechanism, in one embodiment initially by a transfer roller and thereafter at a constant vertical axis by the holding levers and, in another embodiment by the holding levers alone. A shield is located between the roll surface of the lower dispensing roll and the rollers of the dispensing mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1988Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: Georgia-Pacific CorporationInventor: Paul Jespersen

Patent number: 4856692Abstract: A feeding apparatus for feeding a material from a material supply to a further apparatus, particularly a packaging apparatus. The apparatus comprises a storage buffer for storing an amount of the material, a first feed arrangement for feeding the material from the material supply to the storage buffer, and a second feed arrangement for feeding the material from the storage buffer to the further apparatus. The storage buffer comprises a plurality of movable rollers and a plurality of fixed rollers disposed above the movable rollers. The material is wound alternately between the fixed and movable rollers. The movable rollers are movable toward the fixed rollers by the tension in the material, and are movable away from the fixed rollers under the influence of gravity. This enables the material to be fed continuously to the further apparatus during an interruption of the material supply.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1987Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: William R.
