  • Patent number: 4854519
Abstract: A magazine includes a case for accommodating a strip of recording medium as wound around a tubular core, a support shaft provided in the case and supporting the inner periphery of the core for rendering the medium rotatable, and reverse rotation preventing members permitting forward rotation of the core when the recording medium is paid off from the case and preventing the core from rotating in a winding direction opposite to the forward rotation. Even when the recording medium is subjected at its leading end to an external pushing-in force or tends to be rotated by shaking or vibration during handling, the reverse rotation preventing members restrain the medium from rotating in the opposite direction to prevent the leading end from slipping into the case.

  • Patent number: 4852825
Abstract: A tape transport for a leader block tape cartridge has a threading mechanism including a threader pin for engaging the leader block and extracting it from the cartridge after it has been loaded into the transport adjacent a first end of a tape path. The threading mechanism pulls the leader block along the tape path past a read/write head, and inserts the leader block into a take-up hub adjacent a second end of the tape path during a threading operation. During a rewinding operation, the threading mechanism extracts the leader block from the take-up hub, pulls the leader block past the read/write head and inserts the leader block back into the cartridge. A first guide assembly adjacent the first end of the tape path engages and guides the leader block to ensure proper insertion thereof back into the cartridge during the rewinding operation.

  • Patent number: 4850521
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for the sealed connection of two pipe elements, wherein it comprises in projection on the pipe elements two members capable of being moved towards each other by at least one clamping means and of which the contiguous faces defined opposite grooves for housing a crushable seal comprising an inner toric ring of which the convexity is directed outwardly and an outer toric ring of which the convexity is directed inwardly. According to the invention, the seal is constituted solely by such rings, which abut on each other opposite the annular crests of their convex parts and the circular groove of each connecting member presents convergent bearing surfaces pressing the edges of said rings.

  • Patent number: 4850601
Abstract: The invention relates to a seal, consisting of an elastomer shaped ring, which is to be pushed onto a cylindrical circumferential surface and supports itself on the latter by a radially acting sealing surface, with an embedded inner ring, consisting of a chamber portion, likewise to be pushed onto the circumferential surface, with a sealing chamber, which surrounds the shaped ring, is undersized relative to the outer contour of the shaped ring and conically widens from the clear inside diameter of the chamber portion toward one face of the chamber portion, and consisting of fastening means which fix the chamber portion with respect to a second surface resting against the face of the chamber portion. For sealing off a cylindrical surface with respect to a second surface standing vertically on the cylindrical axis, it is proposed that the shaped ring have an axially acting sealing surface, preferably lying at right angles to the radially acting sealing surface, for contact with the second surface.

  • Patent number: 4848698
Abstract: A method of making and of reading markers at control positions on a length of magnetic tape having light-impeding coatings on opposed sides of a transparent tape substrate. Markers are recorded by directing focused beams to control positions along longitudinal areas of the magnetic tape. The beams have an energy sufficient to ablate the coatings, but to leave the tape substrate intact. Raster scanning of the control position provides rectangular markers at prescribed positions. An optical splitting element is used in reading the markers. The element is a heptagonal prism which receives light from a tape drive and forms two parallel, spaced apart beams which are first directed at separate elevations through the markers in the magnetic tape, then converged to the light sensors in the drive. Preferably the optical path through the prism is a path formed by folding a hexagonal prism, with the fold being a reflective surface.

  • Patent number: 4848936
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bearing device particularly intended to be used in the type of poker vibrator whose rotor shaft (2) exhibits an eccentric arranged between two needle roller bearings (3,4). Besides being carried in these bearings, the rotor shaft (2) is also carried in a deep-groove ball bearing (5) intended to take up any axial forces acting on the rotor shaft. In order to relieve it from radial forces, the deep-groove bearings (5) is mounted in accordance with this invention with a positive clearance in both the radial and axial directions. The radial clearance can thereby be provided either between the deep-groove ball bearing's outer race (6) and the bearing sleeve (7) or between its inner race (8) and the rotor shaft (2). The purpose of the axial clearance is to permit the radial movement of the deep-groove ball bearing (5) that is the purpose of the radial clearance.

  • Patent number: 4846415
Abstract: A holder, e.g., for rolls of paper is configured such as to dispense a paper web from the holder via a web braking element (14, 15, 17), which may have alternative forms. The web braking (14, 15, 17) prevents paper from being dispensed uncontrollably from the holder as a result of inertia forces or some other circumstance. The holder is comprised preferably of two major parts, namely a back plate (1) and a causing (2), which houses the roll (4) and roll support means (8, 9). When the roll (4) is placed horizontally in the casing the roll is supported on two shafts (8). When the roll extends vertically in the casing, it is supported by a shelf (9). The shelf has formed therein an aperture (10) through which the paper web passes.

  • Patent number: 4846412
Abstract: A two roll sheet material dispenser cabinet for paper towelling and the like has an automatic transfer system from one roll to the other when one roll is exhausted. The dispenser feeds sheet material sequentially and comprises a cabinet with first and second roll stations and a feed mechanism to feed sheet material from the rolls to a dispensing opening. The feed mechanism has a gripping roller, and a pressure plate pressed against the roller to provide a feed passage between the roller and plate, a feed mechanism rotates the gripping roller, the sheet material from one roll station is retained in the feed passage while sheet material from the other roll station is dispensed. When the sheet material from one roll station is exhausted, the feed mechanism automatically dispenses sheet material from the other station.

  • Patent number: 4844317
Abstract: A rigid link is provided between a plot medium (14) and a position transducer (50) so that accurate plot medium advance measurement can be attained. The device (30) comprises a movable carriage (42) and an arm-like extension (38) that juts out from the carriage to the plot medium. A friction hold is made between the extension arm and the plot medium by applying a force to the extension arm normal to the plot medium by means of an electromagnet (33) which includes a coil (34), the extension arm serving as the armature. The electromagnet is located beneath the platen (12) which supports the medium on a base (32) which also supports the carriage. With the electromagnet activated, the extension arm is held against the plot medium. As the plot medium is advanced by a plot medium drive system (20), the extension arm and carriage are pulled along. Plot medium advance is stopped when the proper advance distance has been sensed by the position transducer.
