  • Patent number: 4456821
Abstract: A slide rule for solving time/speed/distance problems where distances are measured with a single or universal ruler applicable to all charts or maps regardless of scale. Result is achieved by printing alongside time entries on the slide rule a row of appropriately-spaced numbers constituting indicia of chart or map scale, and which has a range encompassing the largest and smallest scales of charts or maps which are likely to be encountered. When such numbers are properly positioned, it is necessary only to set chart scale opposite speed made good, after which running time will always appear opposite distance travelled, and vice versa. This device eliminates the need to use dividers and mileage or latitude scale, and thus obviates the intermediate steps which their use entails.

  • Patent number: 4454409
Abstract: A convenient, easy-to-use calculator computes a person's proper bra and cup size given a knowledge of that person's chest, overbust, and band measurements. The calculator comprises a circular slide rule of three superimposed disks, the intermediate disk being of larger diameter than the upper disk and the lower disk being of larger diameter than the intermediate disk. The three disks are mounted for relative rotation by means of an axially disposed pivot, pin, rivet, or other means transfixing the disks for ease of rotation about their centers. Scalar indicia at the periphery of the disks represent body measurements required for the determination of proper bra size. Proper bra and cup size are viewable through circular indexes when a person's chest and overbust measurements are aligned on the two outermost peripheral scales and the person's underbust or band measurement is aligned with a fixed index on the intermediate disk.

  • Patent number: 4432267
Abstract: An adjustable neck-body joint for a guitar-like instrument is disclosed. The instrument includes a main body portion and an elongated neck portion having at least two threaded apertures formed transversely therein near one end. The main body portion includes a recessed portion for receiving a mounting frame adapted to receive the one end of the neck portion. The frame includes respective apertures formed therein for generally aligning with the threaded apertures when the one end of the neck portion is received by the frame. Threaded fastener means extend through each of the frame apertures into cooperation with the threaded apertures for frictionally securing the neck portion to the frame. The threaded fasteners are smaller in diameter than the apertures formed in the frame such that, when the fasteners are loosened, the neck portion of the instrument can be adjusted relative to the frame. The frame is integrally secured to the main body portion of the instrument by a plurality of threaded fasteners.
