  • Patent number: 6095096
Abstract: A package boiler having water cooled surfaces positioned relatively close to the combustion burner to improve the radiant heat transfer. Extended surfaces are added to the water cooled tube fireside surface to increase absorption rates to the limits established by water side conditions to avoid departure from nucleate boiling (DNB). The heat release rates of multiple firing rate zone burners are matched to the absorption rates of the water cooled surfaces by adjusting the size and extent of the various firing rate zones. The burner is extended or the physical shape is altered to expose a larger surface to greater areas of water cooled furnace surface. The burner is matched to cooling surface to lower combustion zone temperatures and thus thermal NO.sub.X formations. Further, recirculated flue gas, excess air, water vapor or a combination of these may be used to add mass to the fluid stream flowing through the burner. Finally, either the gas fuel or combustion air may be staged.

  • Patent number: 6095097
Abstract: An adjustable louver system for controlling the direct thermal radiation reaching fluid tubes in a direct-fired heater. An angular position of louver blades of the louver system is adjusted by rotating first and second axles attached to the louver blades. The louver blades may be positioned manually or by an electric or pneumatic motor. A hand crank or knob located outside the heater manually turns the louver blades. The motor, which is also located outside the heater, is controllable by a temperature actuator. In some embodiments, the louver blades have pivot pins which fit into slots of a connecting plate. Rotation of one of the louver blade causes the connecting plate to rotate all of the louver blades simultaneously. In some embodiments, the louver blades are vertically positioned and the louver axles fit into holes in upper and lower guide plates. In other embodiments, the louvers are horizontally disposed and the louver axles fit into openings in the heater walls.

  • Patent number: 6095803
Abstract: This invention relates to a Hot Melt Glue Conveying System and in particular to a system for improving the material handling of thermoplastic adhesive chips to provide the uninterrupted flow of hot melt glue to packaging production lines. This invention reveals both a system and a method which improves the material handling efficiency and reduces the maintenance and down-time of a system for conveying solid glue chips or particles from a bulk source in the proper continuous glue volume to a glue melting apparatus. This system has filters at various points in the conveying system to screen the particle size of material flowing through and to minimize foreign particles in the system. This conveying system includes sensing devices that determine the material flow volume and vacuum at various gates, valves and hoppers in the system and sends an electronic signal to the control unit of those readings.

  • Patent number: 6095063
Abstract: An exhaust treatment machine. The exhaust treatment machine has a burning chamber and a wet chamber. Water is injected into the wet chamber by a water inlet at a bottom portion of the wet chamber. At least two rotor blades are installed over the bottom of the wet chamber to generate a vortex flow of the water. Thus, the vortex flow of the water acentrically flushes away the product produced in the burning chamber and removes it via a drainpipe. Furthermore, those clots agglomerated from the powers produced in the burning chamber are fragmented by the rotor blades. The problems of blocking the drainpipe is thus resolved.

  • Patent number: 6092734
Abstract: A manifold connects three boiler circuits and a heat exchanger circuit and an indirect cylinder heated exchanger circuit of a central heating system together. The manifold comprises a container which defines a hollow interior region which is divided by a horizontally extending partition plate into an upper flow water region and a lower return water region. First ports are provided for connecting flow pipes of the circuits into the flow water region of the manifold and second ports are provided for connecting the return pipes of the circuits into the return water region of the manifold. A communicating opening and apertures in the partition plate communicate the flow and return water regions. The partition plate stratifies the water within the hollow interior region so that the hottest flow water is above while the cooler return water is below the partition plate.

  • Patent number: 6092551
Abstract: A duckbill valve is provided which includes a hollow cylindrical elastomeric body with first and second ends. The first end has walls parabolically tapering to an elongate slit, the slit being surrounded by an upper and lower lip. The second end has a non-uniformly round (e.g. oval) outer wall terminating in an open mouth. When inserted into a perfectly round apertured fitting, the non-uniformly round outer walled elastomeric body is bowed to form-fit the round configuration thereby forcing shut the lips and slit. Upon increased air pressure within the elastomeric body, the slit is forced open. In a second embodiment, the inner wall of the second end may be non-uniformly (e.g. oval) round. Insertion of a round tubular fitting within the non-round inner wall of the elastomeric body also achieves a bowed form-fit configuration which forces shut the lips and slit.

  • Patent number: 6089169
Abstract: A facility for reclaiming useful products from solid municipal and hazardous waste uses a rotary kiln to convert the material into a stream of inorganic ash and a stream of gaseous combustion products. The stream of combustion products passes in heat exchange relation to unburned waste and produces a stream of volatile carbon compounds which are deficient in oxygen. The streams of combustion products and volatile carbon compounds are converted in a plasma arc generator into a stream of hot, disassociated atoms. The stream of hot gas is cooled by passage through one or more heat exchangers that reclaim process heat. The stable compounds that are produced are hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The process is controlled by monitoring carbon dioxide in the carbon monoxide stream. The carbon monoxide and hydrogen may be used separately or combined, as in a methanol synthesis plant.

  • Patent number: 6089261
Abstract: A drain system includes a drainpipe and a valve. The valve includes a first and second body and a counterweight assembly. The first body has a passage formed therethrough and is fluidically coupled to the drainpipe. The second body is pivotally coupled to the first body and is moveable between a first generally sealed position and a second unsealed position relative to the drainpipe. The second body has a top surface adapted to receive waste fluid thereon. The counterweight assembly is coupled to the second body and is positioned to produce a force urging the second body toward the first position.
