Abstract: The experience of an end user of a work is enhanced by incrementally distributing the work and supplementing the work by adding an additional interactive component. Installments of works are delivered to the end user on a scheduled basis (and may optionally be delivered upon demand by the end user), or as a benefit delivered in exchange for end user interaction fulfilling certain criteria. The end user is requested or required to perform a task associated with the installment before a subsequent installment is delivered. The user's response (or lack thereof) to the task is recorded, and the user is optionally enabled to later review his or her responses. Each task may have correct or incorrect answers, or the task may require an ad hoc response(s). Optionally, an administrator may review the responses of the tasks of various users assigned to a particular administrator.

Abstract: A method and system thereof for synchronizing a data set comprising a first data set residing on a first node with a second data set residing on a second node. Packets are exchanged with the second node. A packet comprises one or more messages and a message comprises a plurality of elements. At least one of the elements identifies the data set. Other information in the packets is used to identify any data from the first data set that needs to be sent to the second node and any data from the second data set that needs to be received from the second node, in order to synchronize the data set on both nodes. The data so identified can then be exchanged.

Abstract: Extensible reconfigurable media appliance for security and entertainment captures images digitally for storage. Digital effects and filters are applied to incoming video stream on-the-fly or to video data stored in memory. Digital effects and filters are dynamically stored, modified, updated or deleted, providing extensible reconfigurable effects studio. Digital media appliance communicates wirelessly with other media appliances, computers, security systems, video storage, email, chat, cellular services or PDAs to provide seamless integration of captured video stream.

Abstract: Disclosed is a data synchronization service for use in a peer-to-peer computing environment. Selected data objects are copied onto selected computing devices. A service running on each device monitors data objects for changes. When a change is detected, the service sends a change notification to the other devices so that they can update their copies of the data object. A user can access a data object from any device, knowing that he will retrieve the latest version of the data object. Instead of incurring the costs of storing a large file on every device, a user “ghosts” the file on some devices. A ghosting device stores only metadata about the file rather than the entire file. The user accesses the file through the ghost: access requests are sent to a device that holds the actual contents, and those contents are presented to the user as if they were stored locally.

Abstract: A graphical interaction and authoring system is provided that combines textual and graphical information to display hierarchical information via an interactive visual mechanism for the composition and manipulation of syntactic structures, enabling business users to view, operate, and compose information in a way that not only graphically preserves the structure of the syntax, but also maintains the relationship of the expression. The system provides a way for the users to interact with it dynamically and effectively.

Abstract: Methods and systems for proactively processing errors in customs data transmitted to a customs broker are disclosed. A computer receives multiple sets of customs data from multiple importers, each set of data having its own format. The customs data are intercepted by the computer at a central processing division before the customs data are delivered to customs brokers from each of the importers. The computer converts the customs data to have a universal format, then processes the data to detect errors. Information about a detected errors, including correction data to resolve the error, may be transmitted to a customs broker before the customs broker detects the error in his own set of customs data received from the importer.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided to manage information associated with a number of disparate information sources. In an embodiment, a system includes a data structure having a uniform metadata representation and a metadata handler for interacting with the data structure. The data structure can be associated with an underlying file or some other type of information source. In one embodiment, a number of handlers can be chained together to extract and return information according to a desired mode of operation. The embodiments provide extensibility and can be tailored according to a desired implementation. Other embodiments and implementations are available.

Abstract: A method and system for enhanced tuning of search engine parameters includes receiving a search parameter at a search engine. The search engine is equipped with a plurality of tunable knobs set at an initial setting. A search result having a plurality of result objects is generated for the search parameter based on the initial setting of the plurality of tunable knobs. A relevancy score is associated with each of the result objects in the generated search result and the search result is presented at an user interface. The search engine identifies one or more result objects from the presented search result that are not selected over time. The relevancy score of the identified non-selected result objects are adjusted dynamically. The plurality of tunable knobs in the search engine are tuned using one or more search algorithms to obtain optimal search result based on the adjusted relevancy scores and the non-selected result objects.

Abstract: Described is a behavioral targeting technology for online advertising, by which an original attribute is uniformly expanded. Users that meet an original attribute are aggregated into a mid-result used to determine similarity relative to candidate attribute types. The most similar candidate attributes are selected for the expanded attribute. A URL/URL pattern suggestion technology is provided, with similarity computed from users/URLs visited by the users. URLs are separated into URL tree nodes, for calculating the number of users who have visited each URL and the number of users who have visited the URL on a sub-tree whose root is the node. URL/URL patterns are output based on similarity. Domains are also suggested based on user-visits. Similarities between pairs of domains may be computed (e.g., offline), with an output for a given domain provided in based on its similarity with each other domain.

Abstract: A method and system for identifying sights associated with a location and for displaying images associated with those sights is provided. A tour system identifies sights associated with a location by submitting a search request formed using the location to an image search service. The tour system identifies salient phrases of metadata of the search results to be the candidate sight names. The tour system also provides a user interface for displaying the images associated with the locations. The user interface may present a slideshow of sights encountered when traveling on a trip.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and a data processing system for selecting services of a business process for execution is provided. Ontological data is read from a data store, and an ontological model representative of the ontological data is then generated. The ontological model is mapped to a business process that comprises a plurality of sub-processes. The ontological model is used to select a subset of the plurality of sub-processes comprising the original business process resulting in a modified business process.

Abstract: Methods and systems that perform an offline search for an article are described. In one aspect of the invention, the aspect includes receiving a search query, determining whether the search query has been previously entered, if the search query has been previously entered, retrieving a previously stored result set, determining whether a previously stored result set meets at least one condition, and if the previously stored result set meets at least one condition, outputting the previously stored result set.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for electronically managing remote review of documents that are stored on a central repository. The remote review system advantageously enables a remote reviewer, lacking repository access, to remotely review and record decisions in respect to documents stored in the repository and then electronically integrate those remotely made decisions back into the repository. In this way, the inventive system and method promotes efficiency and consistency in responding to document requests for legal purposes.

Abstract: A method for uniform metadata retrieval generates an interface for requesting metadata from a relational database. A hierarchical metadata request can be received via the interface. The hierarchical metadata request can be translated into a relational database metadata request. The relational database metadata request is utilized to retrieve metadata from the relational database.

Abstract: A Two-Pass Harmonized Tariff Schedule Classification system and method is disclosed using an integrated Trade Compliance System (TCS). A classification analyst may preliminarily classify each product by comparing information about each product with information concerning HTS codes. The analyst may store these classifications in a repository in the TCS database. Subsequently, the information in the repository input by the analyst may be reviewed during a second pass by other personnel. The other personnel can review the information in the database for accuracy, taking into account other bases for classification.

Abstract: Systems and methods that detect information and extract information are described. In one aspect, target rules are defined for detection of target hits in an article, including defining a target article region, extraction rules are defined based on the target rules for the extraction of extracts from the article, including an extraction article region, target rules are applied to each target article region of the article to determine target hits, and extraction rules are applied to detect at least one extract from the article based on the determined target hit.

Abstract: A method performed by a processor allows an individual to update or maintain a database including a core and an extension. The core contains core tables including general data and the extension contains extension tables including specific data. The core tables and the extension tables have the same primary keys and the specific data are an extension of the general data. The method includes receiving an input from the individual for modifying the database, modifying the core using the received input, and automatically modifying the extension to reflect the modifying of the core.

Abstract: A computer reservation system matches vehicle ratings using a central database. Vehicle information and rental equipment information are stored in the central database. A user specifies a vehicle description including make, model, and year of the vehicle on a website. The central database is searched based on the vehicle description to find related vehicle information including physical characteristics of the vehicle. The rental equipment in the central database is identified which is compatible with the vehicle as determined by a comparison of the rental equipment information to the vehicle information. The physical characteristics of the vehicle are compared to physical characteristics of the rental equipment to determine compatibility between the vehicle and the rental equipment. The compatible rental equipment is displayed on the website for the user.

Abstract: A method, system, computer system, and computer program product to provide an infrastructure for replicating data across multiple nodes in a network. Changes to data are written to each of a set of mirrored copies of a log on one node. When a storage area containing a portion of one of the mirrored copies of the log becomes full, the storage area is disassociated from the set of mirrored copies. After detaching the storage area, changes are no longer written to the storage area, thereby providing a stable image of that portion of the log data. Log data stored in the storage area are replicated from the storage area to another node. By replicating from a separate detached storage area, log data are replicated without disturbing the disk heads writing changes to each of the set of mirrored copies of the log.

Abstract: Recorded information is accessed. A source document is determined using the recorded information. If a criterion is satisfied based on the recorded information and the source document, an action to be performed is determined. The action is then performed if it is determined that the criterion is satisfied.
