  • Patent number: 9271211
Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus described herein include features that enable dual radio access. In one embodiment, the access point directs an access terminal through sequential measurements, which are selected by the access point based on the radio access capability of the access terminal, service preferences of the user and measurement reports. In a complementary method, an access terminal obtains the sequential measurements chosen by the access point. In another embodiment, the access point directs an access terminal through a set of measurements, which are selected by the access point based on the radio access capability of the access terminal and service preferences of the user. In another embodiment, an access terminal selects which subset of measurements to obtain based on the radio access capability of the access terminal and optionally service preferences of the user.

  • Patent number: 9258735
Abstract: A wireless end-user device has a wireless wide-area network (WWAN) modem. A network element securely provisions the device with a differential traffic control policy list that distinguishes how network traffic for at least one network type should be treated on a per-application basis. A user is also allowed, through an interface, to configure one or more aspects of how a differential traffic control policy is applied to applications. One or more device agents classify whether an application is interacting with a user in a user interface foreground of the device and whether data communication for Internet service activities is provided through the WWAN modem. Based on the network- and user-configured policy information and the classifications, a network stack agent determines whether to allow or disallow a given Internet access request. Some requests that may otherwise be disallowed are allowed when the WWAN modem is already active to serve another request.

  • Patent number: 9252936
Abstract: In a method of operating a wireless terminal, the wireless terminal (30) sends a request to participate in a circuit switched call with a circuit switched network. Prior to establishment of the circuit switched call the wireless terminal (30) releases or performs an inter-radio access technology handover of an existing packet switched session with an original packet switched network. The wireless terminal (30) then reconnects to the packet switched session to obtain a reconnected packet switched session. Thereafter the wireless terminal (30) interleaves packet switched transmissions of the reconnected packet switched session with voice transmissions of the circuit switched call.

  • Patent number: 9197308
Abstract: Data streams stored in buffers are modulated by modulation sections. Multipliers multiply the signals output from the modulation sections by weights output from a weight control section. The signals output from the multipliers are added up by addition sections, subjected to radio transmission processing by transmission radio sections and sent through antennas. A buffer control section controls the buffers based on a retransmission count output from a retransmission count detection section. The weight control section outputs weights different from weights at the time of previous transmission to the multipliers every time data is retransmitted. This allows a diversity gain at the time of data retransmission to be increased even if a time variation of the propagation path environment for radio signals is slow.
