  • Patent number: 9439216
Abstract: A method for preventing a first network node from missing a transmission from an second network node. The method includes, when a ten millisecond periodicity is used for Multicast/Broadcast Single Frequency Network (MBSFN) subframes, setting a time between an uplink grant from the second network node to the first network node and an acknowledgement/negative-acknowledgement message (ACK/NACK) from the second network node to the first network node equal to ten milliseconds. The method further includes, when a forty millisecond periodicity is used for MBSFN subframes, the second network node sending the first network node an asynchronous grant for an uplink retransmission when a data packet is missed, and when the first network node receives the grant for the uplink retransmission, the first network node retransmitting the missed data packet.

  • Patent number: 9420573
Abstract: A method and apparatus for requesting and allocating bandwidth in a broadband wireless communication system. The method and apparatus includes a combination of techniques that allow a plurality of CPEs to communicate their bandwidth request messages to respective base stations. One technique includes a “polling” method whereby a base station polls CPEs individually or in groups and allocates bandwidth specifically for the purpose of allowing the CPEs to respond with bandwidth requests. The polling of the CPEs by the base station may be in response to a CPE setting a “poll-me bit” or, alternatively, it may be periodic. Another technique comprises “piggybacking” bandwidth requests on bandwidth already allocated to a CPE. Currently active CPEs request bandwidth using unused portions of uplink bandwidth that is already allocated to the CPE. The CPE is responsible for distributing the allocated uplink bandwidth in a manner that accommodates the services provided by the CPE.

  • Patent number: 9326252
Abstract: A method for transmitting a signal in a wireless communications network includes calculating, by a network element, first and second average powers. The first average power is associated with a first time period of a downlink transmission between a transmitter associated with the network element and at least one user, and the second average power is associated with a second time period of the downlink transmission. • Patent number: 9294412
Abstract: This application discloses determining a worst-case latency in a controller area network (CAN) for messages experiencing priority inversion within individual controllers. A system to determine the worst-case latency can include a memory system to store computer-executable instructions and a computing system, in response to execution of the computer-executable instructions, can identify that a controller area network (CAN) design includes a controller configured to sequence messages for transmission over a shared bus with at least one of the messages experiencing priority inversion. The computing system also can determine a delay for the controller to present a first message to the shared bus for transmission when the first message is ordered behind a second message having a lower priority than the first message. The delay may be a portion of the worst-case latency corresponding to the priority inversion.

  • Patent number: 9288786
Abstract: A method of communicating data between a base station and a plurality of terminal devices in a wireless telecommunications system is described. The method comprises transmitting data from the base station to the plurality of terminal devices in a multicast transmission and transmitting response signals from the terminal devices to the base station to indicate whether or not the respective terminal devices have successfully received the multicast transmission. The use of a multicast transmission provides an efficient mechanism for communicating the same data to a plurality of terminal device, for example as might be desired in a machine-type communication network. In combination with this, the use of individual response signals, such as ACK/NACK signalling, from the terminal devices allows the base station, or other entity, to track which terminal devices have indicated successful receipt of the multicast transmission, and to instigate an appropriate re-transmission protocol accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9276716
Abstract: In one embodiment, sensor data is transported in a network to a rendezvous point network node, which consolidates the information into a consolidated result which is communicated to the destination. Such consolidation by a network node reduces the number of paths required in the network between the sensors and the destination. One embodiment includes acquiring, by each of a plurality of originating nodes in a wireless deterministic network, external data related to a same physical event; communicating through the network said external data from each of the plurality of originating nodes to a rendezvous point network node (RP) within the network; processing, by the RP, said external data from each of the plurality of originating nodes to produce a consolidated result; and communicating the consolidated result to a destination node of the network. In one embodiment, the network is a low power lossy network (LLN).

  • Patent number: 9271184
Abstract: A wireless end-user device has a wireless wide-area network (WWAN) modem. One or more processors classify whether an application is interacting with a user in a user interface foreground of the device. At a time when Internet service activities are communicated through the WWAN modem, the processors use a differential traffic control policy list to determine whether or not to apply a differential traffic control policy to an application requesting Internet service access. When the policy is applicable, and the application is not classified as interacting with a user in the device user interface foreground, the Internet service access request is blocked. Even when an application access is allowed, a separate control provided a wireless data usage limit for that application.
