  • Patent number: 4895266
Abstract: This relates to a tamper indicating band which is carried by a plastic closure to indicate that the plastic closure has at least in part been unscrewed with respect to an associated container. It is proposed that the tamper indicating band be directly connected to the closure skirt by way of bridges with the bridges having rupturable connections with the skirt and hinge connections with the tamper indicating band. Thus the tamper indicating band may be folded from its as molded state depending from the skirt to a position projecting upwardly into the lower part of the skirt. When the closure is applied to a conventional type of container, the tamper indicating band locks beneath a locking bead on the container neck finish and when the closure is unthreaded, the engagement of the tamper indicating band with the bead will prevent the tamper indicating band to move upwardly with the closure.

  • Patent number: 4892216
Abstract: An improved fuel filler cap for fuel tanks of motor vehicles is disclosed. A cap body member is attached by an actuator rod to an anchor disc, which mates with a tank adapter. When an actuator handle is rotated from a free to a locked position, the anchor disc is engaged with the adapter and drawn towards the underside of the cap, thus insuring a good seal between the cap and the adapter. A first spring disposed between the actuator rod and anchor disc limits the pressure in the tank, such that if an overpressure occurs, the cap is permitted to lift entirely off the adapter, quickly relieving the overpressure. A second spring is preferably provided to positively urge the anchor disc away from the cap upon release of the handle, providing superior operating feel and over-center 10 locking of the handle. The outer surface of the cap is configured so that impacts are absorbed by the adapter, preventing leakage of the cap.

  • Patent number: 4890754
Abstract: Plastic closures for beverage bottles and containers for motor oil, food, pharmaceuticals, industrial products and the like have a tamper-resistant band connected to the sidewall of the closure by internal bridges that are formed by notches in the thread core of molding apparatus of the type having mold parts, including a stripper ring, that move axially to release closures. Stretching, elongation, and weakening of bridges when the closure is stripped from the mold are avoided, and desired configuration of the bridges is maintained, with improved quality and uniformity and more consistent proper performance of the closure during application to and removal from a bottle. In a modification, a small number of relatively strong bridges is added to prevent drooping of the tamper-resistant band if some of the predominant bridges break inadvertently before removal of the closure from a bottle, for example.

  • Patent number: 4887730
Abstract: A closure or cap for containers, bottles and jars having a circumferential groove formed by opposed conical surfaces of substantially equal size in the relaxed condition and upon compression of the closure forming a substantially toroidal circumferential groove. On a container sealed with the closure compressed, expansion of the circumferential groove to the relaxed condition indicates failure of the seal or generation of gases within the container. In an alternate embodiment the circumferential conical surfaces form a V-shaped circumferential protrusion in the relaxed condition and a toroidal protrusion in the compressed condition. In another embodiment the circumferential juncture between the conical surfaces and the closure sidewall is modified to reduce the flexure between the compressed and expanded conditions thereby permitting a wider variety of materials to be used for the closures.
