  • Patent number: 6634105
Abstract: Shears (1) preferably constructed as hand-held garden or pruning shears or secateurs has two shear elements (8, 9) pivotable against one another about a pivot axis (5) and which have engaging portions (15, 16) for mutual cutting engagement and which in the opened state of the shears form a shear mouth widening from the pivot axis becoming smaller on closing the shears. According to the invention rubber-like holding means (20) are provided for retaining cutting material introduced into the shear opening during the cutting process and which only act up to the completion of the cutting process, i.e. until the cutting material is cut through, so that the cut cutting material is released by the shears without it being necessary to open the latter again for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 6634104
Abstract: A shaving device with one or more shaving blades. Sensors are attached to (or near) the blades which produce a shaving signal. A processor or intelligent analysis unit then receives the shaving signal and determines what shaving changes should be made. An audible indicator is coupled to the processor to inform the user of the shaving changes needed. The audible indicator is a speech playback unit, or it produces an audible sound or tone. In the alternative, a visual indicator can be used, such as a liquid crystal (LCD) or a light emitting diode (LED) display, which informs the user of the shaving changes needed.

  • Patent number: 6631658
Abstract: A band saw profiling machine includes an indexing mechanism having a feed finger mechanically linked to a caliper finger for reciprocating movement therewith. The caliper finger is urged toward the feed finger during an indexing movement of the indexing mechanism to measure the spacing between adjacent teeth of a band saw blade on-the-fly and concurrently with advancement and sharpening of the saw blade. The tooth spacing measurement is then used in the band saw sharpening machine to provide feedback for a subsequent indexing movement of the indexing mechanism, to accurately position the band saw blade for sharpening of a row of teeth. A control unit of the sharpening machine accepts input of shape factors from an operator that define the pattern of motion of the indexing mechanism, the grinding wheel, or both, for sharpening of irregular tooth shapes.

  • Patent number: 6625891
Abstract: A circular saw 30 includes a housing 32, a fixed upper guard 34, a movable lower guard 36 and a shoe 38. A saw motor 48 is selectively operated to rotate a circular saw blade 54 to facilitate the formation of a selective cut or kerf into a workpiece 57 under the control of an operator. A forward end 126, and a wing wall 138, of the upper guard 34 form an enclosed chamber 122 which is placed in close proximity with an adjacent surface 46 of the shoe 38 to essentially preclude chips from discharging through a slight space 39 therebetween. A trailing peripheral portion 148 of the upper guard 34 is formed with an inner radial path for receiving the lower guard 36 within the upper guard, and an outer radial path for management and directing of chips to a rear end 130 of the upper guard for discharging of the chips. A pair of stripes 102 and 104, and a sight window 90, are located on a forward portion of the surface 46 of the shoe 38 to assist an operator of the saw 30 in the accurate formation of the kerf.

  • Patent number: 6606923
Abstract: A method to design a bi-center drill bit designed to drill out the cement and other material in the casing and then proceed to drill out the full gauge drilling diameter borehole with a diameter greater than the inside of the casing. The bi-center drill bit has a pilot section on the end of the bit body, an eccentric reamer section and a plurality of cutting elements on the pilot section. The design method comprises the steps of: defining a first center of rotation of the pilot section about the longitudinal axis, defining a radius of rotation R1 of the drill bit about the first center of rotation, defining a second center of rotation of the pilot section spaced apart from the first center of rotation by a distance D, defining a radius of rotation R2 of the drill bit about the second center of rotation, and setting the relationship between D, R1 and R2 such that R1 is less than the sum of R2 and D.
