  • Patent number: 6701621
Abstract: A releasable, double locking knife including a body having a cavity and a pair of opposed arms, each having a free end extending into the cavity, and a blade connected to the body for rotation between the closed position wherein the blade is disposed substantially within the cavity and an open position wherein the blade is disposed substantially outside the cavity. The opposed arms engage side surfaces of the blade when the blade is in the closed position to resist movement of the blade out of the closed position. The arms further engage stop surfaces on the blade when the blade is in the open position, thereby locking the blade in the open position. The blade further includes a release mechanism for moving the arms out of locking engagement with the blade to permit movement of the blade out of the open position.

  • Patent number: 6701628
Abstract: A guide bar (1) is provided for a portable handheld work apparatus, such as a motor-driven chain saw or overhead branch cutter, and includes an elongated, flat base body (4) having a peripherally extending guide groove for guiding a saw chain (6). In the region of the direction-changing section (14) at the free tip (13) of the guide bar (1), the saw chain (6) is laterally partially covered by guide discs (17, 18) which rotate with the idler sprocket (19). The guide discs (17, 18) include radially projecting sections (20, 20′). Corresponding radially projecting sections (20) of one guide disc (17) are arranged offset relative to the radially projecting sections (20′) of the other guide disc (18). With this constructive measure, the manipulation of the portable handheld work apparatus is improved.

  • Patent number: 6694847
Abstract: A cutting tip having a three-layer laminated structure is provided. The tip is made from a disc-shaped three-layer laminate wherein a second layer consisting of a hard sintered compact of CBN or diamond is sandwiched by a first layer and a third layer consisting of a tool material such as cemented carbide. Prismatic blanks of rectangular cross-section are cut out by cutting the three-layer laminate in strips. Semi-completed tips of a desired shape are obtained by cutting up the prismatic blanks. Desired cutting edges are formed on the semi-completed tips to produce completed tips. Because prismatic blanks are obtained from a three-layer laminate and semi-completed tips are cut out from the prismatic blanks like this, the semi-completed tips can be obtained in large numbers, yield is high, and the manufacturing cost of the tip can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6691418
Abstract: A circular saw including a frame, a drive means mounted to the frame coupled to a planar saw blade for rotation about a drive axis within a cutting plane and a base pivotably mounted to the frame about a first axis substantially parallel to the cutting plane and a second axis which is generally substantially parallel to the drive axis. In one aspect, the relative pivotal movement of the frame about the first axis is determined by a trim adjuster including disengageable position locator which is operable to provide a plurality of predetermined discrete engaged positions and a locking means for locking the position of the frame relative to the base over a continuous range of settings. The invention also provides a mounting assembly including a course adjustment means and a fine adjustment means to determine the pivotal movement of the frame about the second axis relative to the base.

  • Patent number: 6675484
Abstract: A folding tool such as a knife or multitool and the like has a resilient lever arm formed in a body portion. A blade pivotally connected to the body is movable between closed and open positions. A blade locking pin is carried on the lever arm, and in the normal resting position the blade locking pin engages the blade. When the blade is in the open position the lever arm biases the locking pin into locking engagement with a notch formed in the blade tang, thereby locking the blade in the open position. Actuating the lever arm disengages the locking pin from the blade, allowing the blade to be moved into the closed position. The blade may have a second notch or hole formed in the tang for engagement of the blade locking pin when the blade is closed, thereby locking the blade into the closed position.
