  • Patent number: 9611492
Abstract: The use of stillage in a saccharification/fermentation process of lignocellulosic biomasses, regardless of the form of the biomasses and regardless of the use of the obtained final hydrolyzed broth. The beneficial effect conferred by the stillage to the saccharification process of lignocellulosic biomasses presents among other characteristics the ability to buffer the reaction medium, especially when such process takes place in an enzymatic route, but not limited to it, regardless of the type of biomass being used and the type of pretreatment to which the biomass is subjected. Fermentation processes, such as the ethanol production, using stillage as source of nutrients such as, for example, nitrogen, for growing microorganisms, but not limited to it.

  • Patent number: 9580687
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for culturing mesenchymal stem cells, comprising culturing mesenchymal stem cells in a medium containing calcium in a concentration of from 2.1 to 3.8 mM and magnesium in a concentration of from 1.0 to 3.0 mM under a hypoxic condition of 2 to 5% oxygen. The culturing method can increase the population of mesenchymal stem cells even with a small number of passages by improving mesenchymal stem cells in proliferative capacity and viability. In addition, the mesenchymal stem cells prepared by the culturing method are effectively used not only as a safe cell therapeutic agent due to their lacking immunogenicity, but also as a cartilage regenerating medicine owing to their excellent secretion of cytokines.

  • Patent number: 9572911
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to materials and methods for processing tissue to produce a natural, acellular replacement tissue that is immunocompatible with a recipient. According to the subject invention, harvested tissue is subjected to wash solutions wherein only amphoteric detergent(s) are used (e.g., anionic detergents are excluded). Following extraction by amphoteric detergent(s), the tissue is washed with a buffer system to facilitate the clearance of cellular components and detergent. In one embodiment, the subject invention pertains to a replacement tissue that is a nerve graft that supports axonal regeneration, guides axons toward the distal nerve end and/or is immunologically tolerated. Preferably, the nerve graft retains essential extracellular matrix scaffolding as well as biological components that promote nerve regeneration through the nerve graft.
