  • Patent number: 7493126
Abstract: A location system comprises a communication terminal for transmitting a location request specifying a target mobile terminal and a type of location information, and a location network. In response to the location request, the location network produces current location information of the target mobile terminal if the type of location information of the received request specifies current location information and transmits the current location information to the communication terminal and stores the last known location information in a memory as last known location information of the target mobile terminal. If the type of location information specifies last known location information, stored last known location information of the target mobile terminal is copied from the memory and transmitted to the communication terminal if the location request is verified by a privacy check and if the stored information is reusable.

  • Patent number: 7486634
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for improving the transmission efficiency when a retransmission of a communication is attained based on a Hybrid-ARQ (Automatic repeat ReQuest) system. A mode determining unit of a base station executes calculations to obtain a received signal quality difference between a received signal quality at the current stage and that of a past stage at a terminal, and supplies the received signal quality difference to a control unit. The control unit controls a power setting unit based on the received signal quality difference to control a transmission power of a signal transmitted from an adaptive coding and modulation unit. The present invention can be applied to a base station of a portable telephone communication network.

  • Patent number: 7457321
Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not. To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7379732
Abstract: A system and method of instant messaging is provided. A plurality of messaging clients capable of transmitting instant messages to one another are each configured to share presence information with one another via a network. A determination is made, with respect to each of the messaging clients, as to whether the messaging client is in a state in which it is receptive to receiving presence information from the other messaging clients, and if so, then the presence information is provided to the messaging client. The presence information may be provided directly between the messaging clients, or it may be provided through one or more centralized proxy servers that store and propagate the presence information. A special state is provided, referred to herein as the unknown state, which when entered by a particular messaging client will cause the system to cease further transmissions of presence information to that client and/or transmissions about that client.

  • Patent number: 7299044
Abstract: In a mobile communication system using a mobile IP, a mobile terminal determines a main home agent and a main home address. When the mobile terminal moved to a network different in service form, a home address for use on a moved-in domain network is registered as a primary care of address to the main home agent, thereby enabling communications by using the main home address even upon accessed from the other than the belonging domain network. This makes it possible to flexibly cope with an incoming call from the external by the use of a representative home address even on the Internet as a distributed network.

  • Patent number: 7242938
Abstract: A system and method for improved mobile assisted handoff in a digital cellular communication system that gives the mobile station the ability to synchronize to candidate base station transmissions in order to read the transmitted digital voice color code (DVCC) of the candidate station. This process is performed during the idle period between two designated time slots in a TDMA frame. The invention is an enhancement to the existing mobile assisted handoff procedures described in the existing IS-136 standard. The present invention improves on the IS-136 standard's use of received signal strength measurements in that it allows the mobile station to acquire and report information regarding the digital verification color code (DVCC) of the candidate base station channels. Since the DVCC uniquely identifies the cell site to which a channel belongs, it is used to distinguish the candidate base station channel from its co-channel interferers, allowing the network to make a more informed handoff decision.
