  • Patent number: 4831898
Abstract: A control system for a continuously variable transmission for a motor vehicle has a transmission ratio control valve having a spool for controlling oil supplied to a cylinder of a drive pulley to change the transmission ratio. The transmission ratio control valve has chambers at both ends of the spool. By controlling flow rate of oil supplied to the chambers in accordance with a desired transmission ratio, the spool is shifted, so that the transmission ratio changing speed is controlled. When an accelerator pedal of the vehicle is rapidly depressed while the transmission ratio is changing, the transmission ratio changing speed is reduced for a predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 4827806
Abstract: A transmission control has a plurality of solenoid controlled hydraulic valves that are selectively operable to control the establishment of various drive ratios in a six speed transmission. A logic valve, comprised of two spool valves and a solenoid, is disposed between the solenoid controlled hydraulic valves and some of the friction drives in the transmission which establish the various drive ratios. The logic valves are operable to establish the fourth ratio if an electrical malfunction occurs during operation in the fourth or fifth ratios, or to establish the fifth ratio if electrical malfunction occurs while operating in the sixth ratio, or to establish the third ratio if an electrical malfunction occurs while operating in the first, second or third forward speed ratios. In the alternative, the logic valves can be controlled to establish fourth ratio whenever an electrical malfunction occurs when the transmission is operating in the second through fifth ratios.

  • Patent number: 4823644
Abstract: A control system for a motor vehicle provided with a continuously variable transmission. The transmission has a transmission ratio control valve having ports and a spool for controlling the transmission ratio. A throttle position sensor is provided for detecting the load on an engine and for deciding the transmission ratio in accordance with the load. Abnormality of the throttle position sensor is detected by comparing a first load signal immediately after starting of the engine with a subsequent load signal. When difference between the first load signal and the subsequent load signal is smaller than a predetermined value, a fail-safe signal is produced for maintaining the transmission ratio at a moderate value.

  • Patent number: 4823646
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an automatic gear transmission and for modifying an optimum gear position based on the engine output and the running resistance for the optimum gear position. If the optimum gear position is a shift-up from the present gear position, the shift-up to the optimum gear position is inhibited when the running resistance is larger than the engine output. If the optimum gear position is the present gear position, the gear transmission is shifted down when the running resistance is larger than the engine output for the present gear position.
