  • Patent number: 4819509
Abstract: The braking force of a transmission and more especially the transmission of a motor vehicle, in which the torque converter component is used for braking by counter rotation of the turbine may be increased if the pump is not able to rotate freely during braking operation in the direction of rotation caused by the flow circuit in the circuit and is instead kept running at a preselectable speed or speed ratios between the turbine and the pump. In this respect a suitable member is preferably a torque converter with a turbine which is arranged on the radially inner part of the torque converter cross section and through which the flow is axial, its direction of rotation during traction operation being opposite to that of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4817470
Abstract: A gear-shift mechanism for motor-vehicle multi-step transmissions with interruption of traction is designed in the manner of a semi-automatic transmission. Manual control switched 80, 81 connected to a control unit 82 serve to actuate shift forks via servo systems 90. Sensors coact with rotating marks on the power take-off shaft and with marks on the speed gears which are driven by the drive shaft. The relative phase position .phi. between the speed gears and the gearshift sleeves driven by the power take-off shaft is determined by a phase detector 75. When a pre-determined phase position is reached, these elements are brought into engagement with each other.

  • Patent number: 4811655
Abstract: Motor vehicle gearbox, comprising a housing with at least one input shaft and at least one intermediate shaft having a gear engaged with a gear on the output shaft. At least one gear of each pair of mutually engaging gears is releasable from its shaft. An over-running clutch is coupled between a releasable gear for a gear speed, preferably the releasable gear for the lowest gear speed, for driving forward and the housing and is arranged to prevent that gear from having substantial rotation in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation for driving forward. However, provision is made for a very limited rotation of that gear in that opposite direction. For this purpose, the over-running clutch has an outer ring, an inner ring fixed to the releasable gear for the gear speed in question for driving forward, and blocking members arranged between the rings which permit rotation of the inner ring only in the direction for driving forward.

  • Patent number: 4805488
Abstract: An automatically compliant self-adjusting geared transmission mechanism is described that involves no controls of any kind and provides a range of stepless variation in the ratio of its output-torque to its input-torque together with the inversely corresponding variation in output to input rotary-speed ratio. The transmission mechanism comprises coaxial rotatably supported adjacent input and output shafts, each carrying a sun-gear fixedly mounted on its mutually proximate end. The sun-gears mesh with corresponding planetary gears of a planetary gear-spool rotatably mounted on a rotor which is itself freely rotatable about the sun-gears' axis. The proportions of the gear diameters are designed so as to develop a torque in the rotor that balances its torque reaction to the output-torque of the gear-train, while coincidentally providing essential variability to the output to input rotary-speed ratio.
