Patent number: 11793394Abstract: A steerable endoscope system includes a continuum manipulator, a plurality of syringes, and a steerable tip. The continuum manipulator includes a plurality of spaced discs and a plurality of backbones each extending through all discs. A bending movement of the continuum manipulator changes a varying linear displacement of each backbone. Each backbone is further coupled to a different one of the syringes such that the linear displacement of each backbone pushes or pulls a piston of the corresponding syringe by a varying amount. The steerable tip includes a plurality of bellows each pneumatically coupled to a different syringe such that movement of the piston of a syringe causes the corresponding bellow to inflate or deflate. Because the distal end of each bellow is fixedly coupled to the same end effector, variations in the amount of inflation or deflation on each bellow causes a bending of the steerable tip.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2017Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignees: Vanderbilt University, University of LeedsInventors: Nicolo Garbin, Pietro Valdastri, Keith L. Patent number: 11672908Abstract: IV filters are described herein. An IV filter includes a body, a filter media, and a bulb. The body defines a body volume. The filter media is disposed within the body volume. The filter media defines an inlet portion of the body volume and an outlet portion of the body volume. The filter media permits inlet flow from the inlet portion of the body volume to the outlet portion of the body volume and captures particulate from the inlet flow. The bulb defines a bulb volume in fluid communication with the outlet portion of the body volume. The bulb is deformable to compress the bulb volume and direct back flow from the outlet portion of the body volume through the filter media and into the inlet portion of the body volume, displacing particulate captured in the filter media into the inlet portion of the body volume.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2020Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: CareFusion 303, Inc.Inventors: Eugene Mason, Jason Andrew Wine, Raymond P. Patent number: 11666701Abstract: A medication delivery device (MDD) (e.g., injection pen, wearable pump) is paired with an external device (e.g., smart phone, iPad, computer) via wireless link or wireline connection. The MDD provides to the external device captured data from the flow sensor relating to medicine delivery to a patient to ensure complete delivery and minimize MDD misuse or malfunction or inaccuracies in dosing. The MDD can have Bluetooth™ and/or near field communication (NFC) communication circuits for proximity-based pairing and connectivity with the external device for real-time or deferred transfer of captured data to the external device, depending on memory and power availability at the MDD. The MDD or external device can use captured data and corresponding time stamps to determine flow infomatics such as flow rate, total dose delivered, and dose completion status. An LED on the MDD indicates states such as powered on, paired, delivery in progress and delivery completion.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2017Date of Patent: June 6, 2023Assignee: Embecta Corp.Inventors: Sudarsan Srinivasan, Michel Bruehwiler, Tyson Montidoro, Mohammadreza Ramezanifard, Cole Constantineau, Jeffrey Chagnon, Stefan Gisler

Patent number: 11446475Abstract: A balloon catheter by which a drug can be effectively delivered to living body tissue and a method of manufacturing the balloon catheter, and a treatment method. The balloon catheter is provided on an outer surface of a balloon with a plurality of elongate bodies which are independent crystals of a water-insoluble drug that extend in an elongate form. The elongate bodies have long axes extending in directions along the outer surface of the balloon when the balloon is in a deflated state. Deformation, when the balloon is inflated from the deflated state, of portions on an outer surface side of the balloon to which end portions of the elongate bodies are fixed causes a force to act on the elongate bodies such that the long axes of the elongate bodies approach perpendicularity to the outer surface of the balloon.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2018Date of Patent: September 20, 2022Assignee: TERUMO KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Yasuo Kurosaki, Katsumi Morimoto, Hiroshi Goto

Patent number: 11376412Abstract: A clamping mechanism (30) for clamping a flexible tube comprises two rotatable bobbins (22, 32), each with a tube-engaging surface portion (24) defining boundaries of a free space through which a tube may extend. The shape of the tube-engaging surface portion (24) changes around the bobbin circumference, such that axial rotation of the bobbins (22, 32) reduces the free space and thereby squeezes the tube. This allows the flow through the tube to be altered dependent on the rotation of the bobbins.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2017Date of Patent: July 5, 2022Assignee: Spectrum Medical Ltd.Inventor: Stephen Turner
