  • Patent number: 4939918
Abstract: A load control system and tool arrangements are disclosed for controlling the shutheight and back-up load on a mechanical press tool in response to a monitored or measured parameter indicative of press tool force or part quality, which monitored parameter is communicated to a controller for determination of a control signal to control a means for regulating the press tool back-up load and shutheight without interrupting press operations. The control system is operable to control a single station or multi station press and can be installed on either an individual press tool or the bolster or slide.

  • Patent number: 4938048
Abstract: A guide strip control device of pipe bending machine for controlling the transverse movement of a guide strip that is applied laterally against a pipe to be bent, which is held and moved longitudinally by a carriage. A first cylinder moves the guide strip over a considerable distance to disengage the pipe entirely from its gripping position and thus to allow the free passage of the carriage. A second cylinder moves the guide strip over a short distance so that the pipe is freed laterally but remains supported by a part of the guide strip.

  • Patent number: 4938047
Abstract: A bend arm is mounted on a base frame for turning movement. The bend arm is provided with a bend die and a work is clamped to the bend die by a clamp die. A drive arm is also mounted on the base frame for turning movement and is connected to the bend arm by a link. The bend arm is turned by the turn of the drive arm via the link and the work is bent by the turn of the bend arm on the model of the bend die. The distance from the center of turn of the drive arm to the connection point of the link to the drive arm is longer than that from the center of turn of the bend arm to the connection point of the link to the bend arm. Furthermore, the former distance is longer than the distance from the center of turn of the bend arm to the center of turn of the drive arm. Thus, the bend arm can be turned beyond 180.degree. by the turn of the drive arm by an angle less than 180.degree..

  • Patent number: 4936131
Abstract: Elongated straight cylindrical metal rods are threaded along opposite end portions, and the cylindrical outer surface of the center portion of each rod is marked to form a visual indicator of the longitudinal center of the rod. The straight rods are successively inserted into a rod bending machine having a mandrel with a mark indicating the center plane of the bending operation. The mid-point mark on each rod is aligned with the center plane mark on the machine, and the rod is bent to form a precision U-bolt. Preferably, the mark identifying the center of each rod extends circumferentially around the metal rod and is formed by a stripe of color contrasting ink directly on the rod or on a label attached to the rod to provide a permanent mark which does not require rotating the rod to find the mark.

  • Patent number: 4932232
Abstract: A method of detecting spray header valve and nozzle malfunctions, in a spray header including plural nozzles each having its own control valve, by supplying the spray header with liquid at a constant pressure head through a conduit while opening and closing the nozzle valves one at a time, and measuring the flow rate through the conduit each time one of the valves is open and when all the valves are closed. In response to detection of a malfunction at a particular nozzle, the valves of one or more adjacent nozzles are adjusted so that the adjacent-nozzle flow rates compensate for the malfunction, for example to maintain a desired cooling pattern across a surface being cooled by the spray header notwithstanding the malfunction at the particular nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4930949
Abstract: In a thread milling cutter comprising at its tip cutting edges for making a bore, said cutting edges are formed as face milling cutting edges which enclose a mutual angle of 180.degree. or more, so that the thread milling cutter on reaching the intended drill hole depth and in order to be laterally moved need not first be raised. Also, it is possible with the thread milling cutter according to the invention when using said cutter to make threads of any desired diameter with the same thread pitch because the tool tip does not run against the drill hole bottom when laterally moved or offset as with the known thread milling cutter. In addition it is possible with the same tool to provide the thread at the entry with an edge-chamfer in such a manner that impairment thereof by formation of burrs is impossible.

  • Patent number: 4928508
Abstract: A prelubricated finstock is described for making heat exchanger fins. The lubricant is water-soluble so that it can be removed from the heat exchanger fins by aqueous means. According to the process, a coating of the water-soluble lubricant is applied to a continuous strip of aluminum alloy finstock. This coating is dried and the coated strip is coiled for shipping and storage. When used, the prelubricated finstock is uncoiled and passed through a finpress to form the heat exchange fins. The lubricant is removed from the fins by aqueous means at any stage after the finpress.
