  • Patent number: 4760808
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for making a piped opening in a garment are disclosed. Two collinear cuts are made in the piping strip at a preparation station. The cut piping strip is then transferred to a sewing machine table where the piping is laid onto a piece of fabric. Then, the incision for making the garment opening is cut through both the piping strip and fabric. The piping strip is then folded through the incision and the two collinear cuts in the piping cooperate to prevent bulges from forming in the ultimately formed piped opening in the garment.

  • Patent number: 4757733
Abstract: A punch main body, consisting of a base portion and a support portion, is formed from one or two extruded profiles, for example of aluminium. Respective end plates, for example of moulded plastics, are preferably fitted to the ends of the profile (5) to maintain overall strength and rigidity so that the thickness of the extruded material can be reduced. A pivotal press bar, which may also be an extruded profile, is effective to move cutting tools downwards through openings in the punch main body. The length of the extruded profile (5) and the positioning thereon of the openings for the cutting tools can be varied without the need for new production moulds, thereby simplifying and reducing the cost of production of a range of different sizes of punch.

  • Patent number: 4757613
Abstract: The effective reach of a chain saw is increased by drive transmitting extension structure which is interposed between the cutting head and motor and handle unit. A first gearbox is attached against a side of the motor and handle unit and contains a pair of orthogonally positioned engaged bevel gears one of which is driven by the drive output element of the motor. A drive shaft extends forward from the first gearbox within a tubular extension arm to a second gearbox to which the cutting head is secured and which transmits drive to the cutting chain drive sprocket. The extension maintains the center of mass close to the operator to minimize strain on the operator and is largely free of exposed moving parts and structural convolutions that could entangle foliage during tree trimming operations or the like.

  • Patent number: 4757866
Abstract: An hydraulic drill feed unit is provided having a main support frame extending from its mounting on a base plate. Single stage cylinders are located on either side of the main support frame and also extend from the base plate. A subframe adapted to travel upon the main support frame is connected to the single stage cylinders. A two stage cylinder is attached to the subframe and extends to a slide member adapted to travel upon the main support frame. The slide member, to which the drill is attached, can move with the subframe responsive to the single stage cylinders and can move relative to the subframe responsive to the two stage cylinder. Each of the cylinders are equipped with ball and socket connectors which allow the drill feed unit to obtain increased lift out of a minimum space. In such a manner, the drill can be positioned to engage the rock strata in very narrow mineshafts or tunnels.

  • Patent number: 4757612
Abstract: A cutter type knife comprises a hollow handle, a housing in said handle adapted to receive a removable blade fixed in position relative to said handle and projecting at least partly from one end of said handle. A blade cover is slidably disposed within said handle to be movable axially between a first position in which it is retracted into said handle and a second position in which it is adapted to surround or cover the part of said blade projecting from said handle. Means are provided for moving said blade cover between said first and second positions consisting of a trigger pivoted to said handle and a transmission mechanism is adapted to convert rotation of said trigger into axial displacement of said blade cover within said handle, whereby when said trigger is depressed said blade cover is moved to said first position.

  • Patent number: 4756085
Abstract: In a device for trimming, cutting out and cutting wallpaper particularly wallpaper of any kind which has just been applied, a knife carrying out upward and downward movements and a stationary resiliently resting knife with specially formed cutting edges are installed in a multipart housing. Furthermore, in this wallpaper cutting device the two knives projecting from the housing are effectively and safely protected and covered by a covering part connected to a trigger part. For the substitution of worn out and used up parts, as knives and batteries, the housing parts of the easily, without difficulty manageable wallpaper cutting device can be easily separated from each other without the use of additional tools.

  • Patent number: 4756556
Abstract: A book structure is disclosed that is much easier to use than books of conventional construction. It can be used by individuals with impaired motor function and by young children who have not yet developed sufficient coordination to manipulate the pages of a conventional book. Each leaf of the book is of a rigid plastic construction with projections above and below the plane of the leaf for holding printed matter on cards. The projections also serve as spacers to separate the pages from one another to facilitate grasping a selected page. Each page further has a rigid tab projection to serve as a handle. A binder assembly permanently holds the leaves for easy turning and to lie flat at any opened page. The binder includes a handle for easier carrying. The assembly is of a smooth, non-toxic plastic material that resists destruction by young children. The printed matter cards may be replaced with new editions as required without the expense of binding each edition, since the book assembly is reusable.

  • Patent number: 4756082
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a shaving cartridge for use with a razor handle having a pair of cartridge engaging shell rocker bearings biased toward one another each of which has at least one undercut rocker bearing for receiving the cartridge. The cartridge has at least one blade thereon and has curved under surfaces pivotal upon and relative to the rocker bearing surfaces of the cartridge engaging shell rocker bearings. At least one protrusion extends from the curved under surfaces of the cartridge and is positioned to engage the shell rocker bearing surfaces on the cartridge when the cartridge is introduced to the shell bearings of the handle to bar reverse insertion of the cartridge in the handle so that the shaving blade of the cartridge when rockably engaged within the grip of the shell bearings is in a shaving ready position every time avoiding accidental reversal of the cartridge and its cutting blades when positioned on the handle for shaving.

  • Patent number: 4754676
Abstract: A device for removing the perforated guide edges from computer paper by a shearing action. The computer paper is supported on a support plate of a first frame, with the line of perforations substantially aligned with a shearing edge provided on the distal end of the support plate. A shearing mechanism is slidably mounted for vertical movement in a second frame which is secured to the top of the first frame. The shearing mechanism includes a shear plate which is movable downward for engagement with the computer paper along the line of perforations where application of an additional force to the shear plate results in clearly shearing the perforated edges from the computer paper. Springs bias the shear plate upwardly for another shearing operation.

  • Patent number: 4754550
Abstract: A can opener providing a circular cut around the cylindrical wall of a can below the lid and rim which are severed by the cut from the rest of the can. A pair of body members having integrally formed handles are pivoted to one another. A rotatable spindle attached to a driving wheel drives the can opener. A cutting wheel forms a nip with the driving wheel in an operating position to force the cutting edge to penetrate through the wall of the can. A mounting plate carrying the cutting wheel is slidably supported by one body member and is movable by cam means between the operating position and a retracted position as the body members are pivoted between their limits of pivoting. To prevent twisting of the body members and their integral handles, cooperating flanges and recess are provided between the body members and their handles. In the retracted position the wheel withdraws into an upstanding guard whose edge abuts the severed top and displaces it.
