Abstract: A load-balancing cluster includes a switch having a plurality of ports; and a plurality of servers connected to at least some of the ports, each of the servers being addressable by the same virtual Internet Protocol (VIP) address. Responsive to a connection request at the switch to connect a client computer to a server associated with the VIP address, a first server of the plurality of servers establishing a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection with the client computer, and, in response to a resource request received by the first server from the client computer for a particular resource, if the first server does not have a copy of the particular resource it queries one or more peers regarding the particular resource.

  • Patent number: 8886801
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for monitoring services in a multi-core system. The systems and methods distribute the monitors for a service and the ownership of a service across the cores of the multi-core device. The greater resources of the multi-core device process the workload of the monitors for the services and the workload for monitoring the states of the services more efficiently than a single packet engine on a core.

  • Patent number: 8880623
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus can provide ordered (e.g. ranked) lists of content items as a suggested list of items to watch. The ordered list can be based on feedback from other users. The content items can also be presented (e.g. in a continuous playback mode) to a passive user so that the user does not have to actively select a next item to watch. This passive mode can select a next item (e.g. from a list that is updated based on recent user feedback), and the item can be queued on a client device for playing to a user. Content items can also be provided from different independent servers.

  • Patent number: 8878937
Abstract: A system and method for the capture and storage of data relating to the movements of objects, in a specified area and enables this data to be displayed in a graphically meaningful and useful manner. Video data is collected and video metadata is generated relating to objects (persons) appearing in the video data and their movements over time. The movements of the objects are then analyzed to detect the movements within a region of interest. This detection of movement allows a user, such as a manager of a store, to make informed decisions as to the infrastructure and operation of the store. One detection method relates to the number of people that are present in a region of interest for a specified time period. A second detection method relates to the number of people that remain or dwell in a particular area for a particular time period. A third detection method determines the flow of people and the direction they take within a region of interest.

  • Patent number: 8880658
Abstract: A method, a substation automation apparatus and an intelligent electronic device (IED) are disclosed which are, for example, not limited only to publishing data (data emanating) from the IED. An exemplary method includes assigning a unique identifier to one or more data fields, where the one or more data fields is associated with a short address attribute in the data emanating from the intelligent electronic device; and dynamically updating the identifier based on user specific configuration data by an IED application configuration tool. The IED can include a list of functions; (e.g., each function being represented as a logical node; and each logical node containing data objects); and a flexible addressing scheme for configuring the data objects and publishing data from the IED, but not only data emanating from IED.

  • Patent number: 8867384
Abstract: A method in a terminal for providing an ACK/NAK message to a base station is provided. The terminal counts the number of assigned downlink subframes detected from the base station resulting in k. The terminal then establishes whether each of a number of transport blocks comprised in the counted k downlink subframes is correctly received or not. In the case when each one of the transport blocks, comprised in the k downlink subframes is estimated as correctly received the terminal provides to the base station an encoded ACK message for the k subframes, which comprises k, the number of subframes.

  • Patent number: 8868777
Abstract: A network switch, based on the PCI Express protocol, is disclosed. The switch includes a processor, local memory and a plurality of non-transparent bridges. By configuring the non-transparent bridges appropriately, the network switch can facilitate a number of different communication mechanisms, including TCP/IP communication between servers, server clusters, and virtualized I/O device utilization. For example, the network switch may configure the non-transparent bridges so as to have access to the physical memory of every server attached to it. It can then move data from the memory of any server to the memory of any other server. In another embodiment, the network switch is connected to an I/O device, and multiple servers are given access to that I/O device via virtualized connections.

  • Patent number: 8860820
Abstract: In the present digital age, the storage of data and the administration of the stored data is a problem area which, despite rapidly dropping prices for storage media, is increasingly important as technology becomes more sophisticated. In the field of security technology, for instance, storing streams of video data or compressed streams of video data that are recorded by surveillance cameras plays an important role. Some of the streams of video data stored should be stored for a defined length of time, such as a few days, while some data should be stored permanently, and there is accordingly a need for a highly flexible solution to the problem. A video recording system for recording video data, a method for memory space distribution in the video recording system, and a computer program for this purpose are proposed.

  • Patent number: 8862775
Abstract: A load balancing routing method for networks is disclosed. The routing method includes following steps. A network topology graph and a plurality of expected bandwidth demands corresponding to a plurality of source-destination pairs are received by a network server. A plurality of link criticalities of a plurality of links established according to the source-destination pairs is calculated by the network server according to the network topology graph and the expected bandwidth demands. A plurality of expected loads of the links is calculated by the network server according to the link criticalities. A plurality of cost values is calculated according to a plurality of residual capacities of the links and the corresponding expected loads. A better transmission path corresponding to each of the source-destination pairs is selected by the network server according to the weighted sum of the cost values corresponding to the links in the source-destination pair.
