  • Patent number: 8560975
Abstract: A device with a touch-sensitive surface detects a touch on the touch-sensitive surface, determines that the touch is cancelled, and in accordance with a determination that the touch is cancelled, sends a touch cancel event to at least one of the one or more applications. Also disclosed is a device configured to determine that a respective touch has been cancelled by the device. If the respective touch has been cancelled, the device ignores the respective touch. If the respective touch has not been cancelled, the device processes the respective touch. In addition, a device configured to detect one or more touches and process at least a subset of the touches with at least one application is described. While processing at least a subset of the touches, the device receives a touch cancel event, and, in response to receiving the touch cancel event, ignores the touches.

  • Patent number: 8473860
Abstract: A user interface (UI) system calculates movements in a multi-layer graphical user interface. The UI system receives user input corresponding to gestures on a touchscreen. The UI system calculates a movement of a first layer in a first direction (e.g., a horizontal direction) at a first movement rate. The UI system calculates a movement of a second layer substantially parallel to the movement of the first layer, at a second movement rate that differs from the first movement rate. The UI system calculates a movement (e.g., a vertical movement) in a direction substantially orthogonal to the first direction, in a UI element of one of the layers.

  • Patent number: 8365078
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product for monitoring the performance of a system. The mechanism of the present invention provides an interface in the form of a graphical user interface (GUI) to communicate multiple layers of system performance data to an operator. An operator monitors this display of information and uses it to determine how to adjust the system to optimize system performance. This mechanism of the present invention provides immediate feedback to an operator by displaying a trail of metric points, wherein the metric points indicate the status of system performance over a period of time. In this manner, the display mechanism of the present invention immediately conveys to an operator whether the system is operating within predefined margins, the results of performance adjustments made to the system, as well as predictions or trends for the system.

  • Patent number: 8261200
Abstract: An interactive system provides for increasing retrieval performance of images depicting text by allowing users to provide relevance feedback on words contained in the images. The system includes a user interface through which the user queries the system with query terms for images contained in the system. Word image suggestions are displayed to the user through the user interface, where each word image suggestion contains the same or slightly variant text as recognized from the word image by the system than the particular query terms. Word image suggestions can be included in the system by the user to increase system recall of images for the one or more query terms and can be excluded from the system by the user to increase precision of image retrieval results for particular query terms.

  • Patent number: 8201104
Abstract: Favorable visual appearance and ease of operation are required in the user interface of digital home appliances using a television screen. An array of function icons including multiple function icons representing respective types of media that can be played and an array of content icons including multiple content icons representing items of contents that can be played are displayed practically at the center of an on-screen menu such that the arrays intersect. A moving image icon, which is a function icon displayed in an area of intersection in which the array of function icons and the array of content icons intersect, is highlighted by a color different from that of the other function icons and by an enlarged view. In the array of content icons, the hierarchy of the contents is visually represented.

Abstract: This disclosure describes, generally, tools for navigation of tree structures. For example, a software application comprising a user interface for allowing a user to navigate a tree structure is described. The user interface comprises a graphical element including the tree structure. The tree structure comprises multiple nodes which represent a hierarchical view of data within the structure. One of the nodes is set as the active node. The computer software application also includes a storage element to store a list of previous active nodes. The graphical element is in conjunction with a first navigational element configured to step backward through the list of previous active nodes, and to set the stepped to node as the active node. The graphical element is further in conjunction with a second navigational element configured to step forward through the list of previous active nodes, and to set the stepped to node as the active node.
