Abstract: To provide an upsetting method capable of efficiently expanding a bar-shaped raw material at least two portions. A plurality of guides 31 and 32 each having an insertion hole 34 are prepared. The bar-shaped raw material 1 secured to a fixed die 20 is inserted and held in each insertion hole 34 of the plurality of guides 31 and 32 in order. Then, a first exposed portion 4 of the raw material 1 exposed between a first guide 31 located at the foremost side of the plurality of guides 31 and 32 and the fixed die 32 is expanded in diameter by moving the plurality of guides 31 and 32 in a direction opposite to a moving direction of the punch 50R in a mutually adhering manner while pressurizing the raw material 1 in the axial direction with the punch 50R.

  • Patent number: 7353677
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for establishing setup parameters for use in a machine. In one embodiment a tooling component is removably mountable to a host machine. The tooling component includes a memory that contains information defining setup parameters for the host machine for use with the tooling component. A controller associated with the host machine reads the information from the memory and configures the host machine based on the information read from the memory. In another embodiment, an information carrying tag, is associated with the tooling component. The information carrying tag is read and the identifying information obtained from the tag is used by a controller to select a set of setup parameters from one or more sets of setup parameters stored in a storage device accessible by the controller. A mechanism is provided to precisely position the adapter on the base plate for the host machine to minimize variations in production using the setup parameters derived from the stored information.

  • Patent number: 7353680
Abstract: The compression spring former disclosed by the present invention contains an external diameter mechanism, spacing mechanism, wire-feeding mechanism, cutting mechanism, length-detecting mechanism, sorting mechanism, and microcomputer control mechanism. Within the working range, specific springs can be formed simply by inputting the parameters describing the external diameter, spacing, roll number, and other allowance requirements. The control mechanism has a built-in length detecting and automatic sorting mechanism, which can modify the spring spacing according to different free heights, ensuring the allowance of free height. The cutter has a working mode for repeated cutting. The lowest point of the cutter shaft is set to “0” degrees for cutting the springs. If the cutter swings from positive 20 degrees to negative 20 degrees, or from negative 20 degrees to positive 20 degrees, the spring will be cut. That is to say, a spring is produced in every rotation of 40 degrees.

  • Patent number: 7354350
Abstract: Implementations of the present invention include a thread-rolling tap, which is designed and intended for the non-cutting finishing of a previously created thread, in particular internal thread. For example, one implementation of such a tool includes at least one thread-forming portion that rotates about a tool axis, the thread-forming portion having multiple forming wedges. The forming wedges in cross-section include two flanks that diverge from one another beginning at a forming wedge tip. The forming wedge tip can be shaped as any of an acute angle, a rounded region, or a flattened region. At least one of the two flanks also include at least one expansion for positioning the forming wedge in the previously created thread. Additional implementations of the invention relate to a methods of manufacturing such a tool, as well as to methods of creating a thread.

  • Patent number: 7350543
Abstract: A reduced force sealless connection mechanism is used in a strapping machine for forming a sealless connection of strapping material overlapped onto itself. The mechanism includes an upper and a lower punch support. The upper punch support includes two punches for engaging the strapping material. The lower punch support includes one punch. The upper punch support incorporates a stepped design such that one of the two punches mounted to the upper punch support is at a different height than the other punch mounted to the upper punch support. Each of the punches includes a plurality of punching heads. At least one punching head of each of the plurality of punching heads is shorter than the other punching heads. A multi-step punching sequence is therefore created such that no more than two slits of any of the joints of the sealless connection are simultaneously punched during creation of the sealless connection.

  • Patent number: 7343769
Abstract: A corrugation forming apparatus includes, as forming members, a rack tool assembled to a slide table and a pinion tool which rotates with rotation of a shaft. The apparatus also includes, as a displacement synchronization mechanism, a feed rack integrally assembled to the table and a feed pinion gear in meshing engagement with the feed rack. When a handle is rotated, its rotational force is transmitted to the feed rack via the feed pinion gear, so that the rack tool moves along the axial direction, and the pinion tool rotates in synchronism with the movement of the rack tool. This enables forming of successive recesses and projections on the thin metal plate, while reducing ductile cracks and warpage.

  • Patent number: 7331206
Abstract: The present invention provides method of fabricating components having internal teeth and rolling machine thereof, enabling large deformation at main rolling step omitting broaching step and step using gear shaper. A container having toughness against internal pressure as high as that of cold forging is provided instead of gripping mechanism of a cylindrical material. A cylindrical material is inserted into the rotatably driven container in aligned manner. A rotatably driving rolling tool is acted on the inner side to press the cylindrical material and distance between tool rotational shaft and container rotational axis is sequentially changed to successively grow tooth profile. A component having internal teeth filling the container is obtained by enlarging outer diameter by spreading. It is desirable to provide in advance the same number of concave grooves as that of internal teeth to be formed, at equal intervals on an inner circumferential face of the cylindrical material.
