    Abstract: A linear acceleration system comprises one or more accelerating stages along an axis and a unipolar electrostatic quadruple lens in series with the one or more accelerating stages. The unipolar electrostatic quadruple lens focuses an ion beam in a direction transverse to the axis. The unipolar electrostatic quadruple lens includes a switching circuit, a first pair of electrodes, and a second pair of electrodes. The switching circuit controllably connects to ground and a first voltage potential. The electrodes of the first pair are located opposite each other and are connected to the switching circuit. The electrodes of the second pair are also located opposite each other and connected to the switching circuit. The second pair of electrodes are biased to a second voltage potential.

    Abstract: An efficient power conversion circuit for driving a fluorescent lamp uses a minimum pulse generator circuit to control the minimum on-time of a time modulated signal to increase the dimming range of the fluorescent lamp operating over a wide range of temperature and supply voltage. A minimum number of lamp current cycles with respective amplitudes above a preset threshold is typically required to avoid flickering or shimmering during minimum brightness. The minimum pulse generator circuit counts the lamp current cycles and adjusts the on-time accordingly to guarantee the minimum number of cycles with respective amplitudes above a preset threshold under all operating conditions.

    Abstract: A full color fiber plasma display device includes two glass plates sandwiched around a top fiber array and a bottom fiber array. The top fiber array includes identical top fibers, each top fiber including two sustain electrodes located near a surface of the top fiber on a side facing away from the viewer. A thin dielectric layer separates the sustain electrodes from the plasma channel formed by a bottom fiber array. The bottom fiber array includes three alternating bottom fibers, each bottom fiber including a pair of barrier ribs that define the plasma channel, an address electrode located near a surface of the plasma channel, and a phosphor layer coating on the surface of the plasma channel, wherein a luminescent color of the phosphor coating in each of the three alternating bottom fibers represents a subpixel color of the plasma display.

The monopole has an effective length L of one quarter wavelength at the lowest frequency f1. A dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) surrounds the monopole antenna for resonating at substantially between or at two and three times the lowest frequency f1, the DRA is of a height of less than ¾ L and is disposed in such a manner as being above the ground plane and either contacting or spaced therefrom by a gap G, wherein 0?G?0.2 H. The ultra-wideband antenna is of a much greater bandwidth than the sum of bandwidth of the monople or the DRA alone.

The dual-use level signal is applied to cause the light to be energized at the desired background level and is further applied to set at least one other characteristic of the motion-activated light associated with the selected background level. The dual-use level signal may be applied to activate and establish an intermediate background lighting level to provide accent mode lighting and also be applied to disable a manual override capability. The manual override capability is preserved in security mode so that it will operate when these is no background lighting.

Since the gain is primarily a function of the amplifying electronics, it is not necessary to increase the directivity of the antenna to achieve higher gain.

    Abstract: A Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) and a radio module integrated into a single module. The present invention permits the PIFA to be removably secured on the top of a radio chip module. In one embodiment of the invention, a non-conductive antenna frame is removably secured to a radio chip. A radiating element or “patch” is then secured to the top of the frame. The patch has feed and shorting pins connected thereto. The integrated radio/antenna system can be mounted on a PCB using standard surface-mount techniques and the feed and shorting pins can be soldered to the PCB. In another embodiment of the invention, a cover is removably secured to the frame to retain the patch on the frame. The cover has a window to permit the feed and shorting pins to be soldered to the PCB.
